The 356 Karmann Hardtop or “notchback” as they are commonly referred to were built by Karmann for Porsche during the 1961 and 1962 model years (only) and are an interesting part of 356 history. Despite only being built for two model years, they are quite different. The 1961 model, built on the T5 chassis, began life as a Reutter cabriolet and then had hardtops permanently welded to the body. The 1962 models were built as coupes and received their roof structure during production of the rest of the body.
