1965 Porsche 911 Coupe, 301022

This 1965 Porsche 911 is special.

301022 is not special because it’s well-restored, which it certainly was, or special because there was a higher level of care put into it by the owner, because there was; it’s special because it makes “the sum of its parts” a superlative compliment. Some people consider certain cars to be better than the sum of their parts, to get behind the wheel and forget their componentry. While you could get behind the wheel of this car and do just that, you’d be missing a substantial portion of its reason for existing.

Das Fahrzeug im Detail

This car has all of the correctly stamped bolts. The brightwork was polished by the owner prior to final chrome plating. It features a radio with the correct date code, the hub caps are original and date-coded, the tool kit utilizes the original bag, the door hardware and strikers are correct, the washer pump is correct, the wiper and indicator stalks are date-coded, the brake calipers are original, the Webasto heating setup is complete.

When it was being restored, the owner and restoration shop procured NOS parts to include the fuel pump, wiper blades, steering damper, rear dampers, headlight lenses, GE sealed-beam bulbs, front turn signal assemblies and rear tail lights, speaker, indicator flasher relay, fog lamps, rear valance, owner’s manual, and 1965 sales brochure.

If a part could be restored rather than replaced, it was. You can see the devotion to originality throughout the car- open any thing that opens on the car and you’ll see just how complete the restoration was.

Attention was paid to hardware colors and surface finishes. The paint and finishing work is better than factory. Pictures of the car before and during restoration are available to prospective buyers.

The paint is Glasurit epoxy primer over which Glasurit Signal Red base was applied with Glasurit clear coat over that. If the next owner decides to drive and enjoy the car, and we hope they do, repairs will be easy compared to single-stage. Note the correctness of the door jamb areas.

Correct five-button dashboard. The correct wood insert is applied to the dashboard. Shift lever and hand brake boots as original. Perforated inserts in the five-bar seats, and perforated seatbacks to match. A reproduction steering wheel is fitted but the original is included with the car.

The engine was built by Frank Beck using Solex carburetors as original. Clear zinc plating throughout. The fuel pump is the correct double diaphragm-style run from the camshaft nut. The airbox is the correct, taller example. It starts, idles, and drives as it should. It hasn’t seen many miles, but that’s easy enough for the next owner to rectify.

The rebuilt transaxle utilizes Nadella driveshafts to provide motive power. Many cars have been converted but the factory had enough faith in Nadella driveshafts to use them in all factory limited-slip applications until the Lobro-style driveshafts were strengthened in 1969.

Under the body is a fully refreshed suspension with as much attention to detail and originality as possible. As mentioned before, the steering damper and rear dampers were NOS.

This car is at home showing its originality or out on the road providing smiles to its new owner. It’s an exceptional example of a drivable show car and deserves a spot of distinction in any prospective buyer’s collection.
