1965 Porsche 911 Coupé for sale!

Highly original and attractive, ‘first 500’ 1965 car fully prepared and ready to race in its period correct colour scheme.

Early history: The car is an extremely early 1965 Porsche 911 (300411) that was produced in the first series of 911’s built in early 1965. These cars had many of the unusual idiosyncrasies that the 1964 901 model had and differed from the cars produced from June onwards. 300411 still retains these distinguishing features and also possesses its original doors, floor, front wings and rear quarter panels etc.

300411 was originally supplied to Porsche of America and was brought back to the Germany in 1993 where the car was purchased by the Porsche photographer Rene Staud. Rene had the car race-prepared and then competed in historic races in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. Much of the car’s history from this time is documented in the history file, including photographs of the car racing, engine rebuild invoices and German road certificates.

Historika build

Historika are respected by many as the original enthusiasts for the racing 2-litre 911. They are certainly the most successful team, having won the 2 Litre Cup championship in both 2018 and 2022, with their own 1964 car.
In 2017, Historika started to build this car up for an important client and longstanding friend of Sports Purpose. After stripping the car, Historika declared the car to be the most original chassis that they had ever seen. The car still had its original front wings, doors and rear quarter panels and these of course remain on the car today. The car was repainted in its original Light Ivory colour and built to the usual Historika recipe of smart authenticity, with a trimmed interior with correct details and period touches.

The car was built to be a front-running 2 Litre Cup car and was shaken down for racing by the experienced Olly Bryant.  300411 made its debut at the Dijon round of the 2 Litre Cup in 2019 and was immediately on the pace, setting one of the fastest laps at the Monza round that season. It was sold by that owner only in order to make space for a genuine 1964 car.

The car is eligible for all pre-1966 GT grids, the 2.0L Cup, Tour Auto, Le Mans Classic, Goodwood Members Meeting and Revival Meeting races, the Spa Six Hours and the new Motor Racing Legends 3 Hour races in the UK, as well as many other events and rallies.

recent ownership
The current, Hong Kong-based, owner bought the car at the end of 2020 to start a programme of historic racing with Sports Purpose.  His plan was to use it on the road at weekends when in England and then to build through track days and road-rally events to racing in international historic racing.  However, like many F1 drivers before him, the reality of being an international racing commuter meant that the dream of being a historic Porsche racer has faded a little and the car is therefore for sale.
Upon purchase, the owner set about improving the car to his own taste, with BS Motorsport fitting locking mechanisms to the door, bonnet and engine lid, as well as fitting a handbrake. A precautionary engine rebuild was undertaken by Tuthill Porsche as a precaution and they added both electronic ignition and a quieter exhaust system. The total of these works was nearly £30,000. The car has only been driven for occasional exercise since then. With the exception of the electronic ignition, and the fitment of an FIA-approved seat and a decent spanner check, it could be ready to race at the first round of the 2023 2.0 Litre Cup at Mugello in March.
our thoughts
The car represents a rare opportunity to buy a no questions, fully competitive, early chassis number car with matching numbers engine built by one of the most recognised marque specialists, Historika Porsche.  Having been lucky enough to race the car in the Pall Mall Cup at Silverstone with Historika in 2020, we know it to be a quick car with no foibles.
The asking price of £260,000 represents a substantial discount on the price of a new car, as well as providing immediate availability.
