Das Fahrzeug im Detail

In 1984, Porsche debuted the update to their hugely successful 911 SC- known as the Carrera 3.2, the new model looked largely identical but under the skin, it was a very different car. The engine was claimed to be 80% new and featured an extra .2-liters of displacement as well as a more refined Bosch L-Jetronic electronic fuel injection and ignition control system. In addition to the engine changes, the brake discs were enlarged and the oil cooling system was improved for hot weather driving. In 1987, Porsche introduced the Getrag G50 gearbox to the Carrera, which was used with some modifications for the following decade in both the 964 and 993. A more precise gearbox than the previous 915 unit, the G50 was the first 911 transaxle to feature a hydraulic clutch, offering more consistent pedal effort and making them easier to use in stop-and-go traffic. These 1987-1989 Carreras have become known as the ones to have as they offer the ideal combination of reliability and ease of use while still maintaining the classic body shape and 911 driving characteristics that began to change with the introduction of the 964.

Report summary

This 1988 Carrera Cabriolet has clearly been well cared for over the past 34 years and presents very well, but as it is nearing 100,000 miles, it does show some signs of use during that time. The paint looks very nice but does have numerous minor rock chips on the front bumper, the front, and right fenders as well as a slight scrape under the front bumper. According to paint meeter readings, the car has had some paintwork carried out but it was done well and does not stand out on the car. The windshield also has a few rock chips and a small crack that are to be expected on a car with this many miles. The only other visual items of note are a small tear in the weatherstripping at the base of the driver’s side door jam, a minor crack in the plastic tail light lens and a small paint chip on the right front wheel. Inside, the leather still looks to be in very good condition but there are a few faults- the passenger seat’s electric adjustment is not working, the plastic is cracking on the rear seat belt buckles and the gear knob has some wear on it. Where the careful ownership of this car really becomes clear is on the mechanical side- the only item of note here is some oil seepage on the front left shock absorber. Overall this car is in very high driver quality condition with only minor faults through the vehicle.
