The Porsche 911 is one of the most recognizable and successful sports cars in the world. Since its inception in 1964, the 911 has gone through numerous iterations, each building upon the original formula and giving the world a pure driving experience. They are notable for continuing the tradition of having air-cooled, rear-mounted engines until 1997, being one of the last models to make the switch to water cooling. The 911 has also seen success in racing, with both private and factory teams modifying the cars and achieving a plethora of podium finishes.

The first generation was produced until 1989, with engine displacements and numerous other factors changing throughout the years. The last version of that first 911 generation came with model year 1984 and was dubbed the 3.2 Carrera, reviving the “Carrera” nameplate last used in 1977. As the name suggests, the model introduced a new 3.2-liter flat-6 engine that put out 207 hp in the North American market through a five-speed manual transmission.

The disc brakes were bigger to help with heat dissipation, while improved oil-fed chain tensioners kept the bigger engine well-fed. A finned cooler was also added to improve oil cooling. The new L-Jetronic Fuel Injection System with Bosch Motronics 2 DME further improved the driving experience as well as the engine’s overall reliability. The Carrera 3.2 was available as either a coupé, targa, or cabriolet. A total of 76,473 examples of the 911 3.2 were produced, with 35,670 coupés, 19,987 cabriolets, and 18,468 targas.

This particular example, Chassis # WP0AB0911ES122095, was built on September 14, 1984, in a fairly rare Kiln Red over a contrasting black leather interior. Today, this car remains in outstanding original condition and shows just under 29,000 miles from new. It contains almost entirely original paint, a wonderful original interior, and rock-solid, well-maintained mechanicals. The extensive optional equipment list includes a speedometer with two scales, a Blaupunkt Monterey radio, automatic rear 2-point seat belts, increased side door strength, license brackets, forged alloy wheels, leather sport seats, cruise control, black roof liner, front and rear spoilers, sport shock absorbers, “symbols for controls,” an alarm system, and an electric sliding sunroof. Three items removed from the factory car were the compressor & tire pressure gauge, rear fog lights, and vehicle identification plate.

It was sold new just a month later by Continental Porsche of Portland, OR to its first owner. According to the CARFAX report and a sales listing from 2017, the car was garaged in 2002 with 26,000 miles on the odometer. It spent the next 15 years in that garage before being acquired by the now-defunct Chequered Flag International in Los Angeles, CA.

The team proceeded to remove the engine, recondition it with a major overall service, and fit a new engine bay insulation pad. The clutch and pressure plate were replaced, the braking system was overhauled, the gas tank and its lines were cleaned, all of the fluids were flushed, and all new belts and tires were installed.

This Porsche was then purchased sometime in 2018 by a fellow Oregon resident. In November 2019, they brought it to Matrix Integrated in Portland, OR who replaced several fuses and secured the horn button.

The CARFAX reported a new owner in February 2020, also based in Oregon. In August 2020, they too brought the Porsche to Matrix Integrated for an oil change, an AC recharge with R134a, new rear hatch struts, and a brake system flush. That same month, the car was offered for sale by Grand Prix Motors of Portland, OR, and later headed to its new owner in California.

In May 2021, this 911 visited Sublime Silverlake, an independent Porsche shop in Los Angeles, CA. It was treated to a new European-style headlight assembly, new headlight rims, H4 LED lights, a support ring for the steering shaft bearing, and the timing chain cover gaskets. It returned in January 2022 for an oil change, clutch adjustment, belt tension and idle adjustment, as well as the installation of the original Blaupunkt radio.

Porsches of this vintage continue to be desirable models on the market. This specific one benefits from being a fantastic original car with under 30,000 miles on the odometer and a plethora of optional equipment from the factory. The rare Kiln Red paint is all-original save for the rear bumper, which has been re-sprayed. All of the factory stickers remain in their stock locations, while the original interior presents very well and retains its factory sport seats. This 911 is sure to turn heads at any car event it attends, while the lengthy option sheet and originality will awe any Porsche enthusiasts who lay eyes on it. It’s the best of both worlds!

Upon purchase, the new owner will receive the original owner’s manuals, the service book with option code sticker and eight service stamps, the factory spare, the original toolkit,  jack, and air pump, as well as an extra set of keys and available service documentation.



Body And Paint

The Kiln Red exterior color is a fantastic compliment to the classic lines of this Carrera. The paint appears to be largely original throughout the car, metering consistent across the entirety of the exterior, with the exception of the rear bumper, which appears to have been re-sprayed at some point in the car’s life. Given the original nature of the paint, there are minor imperfections that come with the territory. Most of these are relegated to small stone chips, some of which have been touched up in the front section of the car. There is also a small crack in the edge of the whale tail spoiler on the driver’s side, but it does not appear to be structurally compromised. The mirrors contain stereotypical stone peppering, some of which has been touched up. There is a small section on the passenger side door with four little spots of paint rub through. There is also a small hairline scratch just in front of the passenger rear tail light. There is a bit of scratching to the drip rail above the driver-side door, likely from entry and egress. Overall, the paint contains excellent color throughout the vehicle, with a smooth and consistent finish to the color. Given its original nature, the paint has held up remarkably well. The body itself is straight and clean down the sides with no issues to note. The gaps are all extremely tight, and fitment throughout the car is spot on, as you would expect with a vehicle of this low mileage.

Glass And Trim

The glass throughout the car appears to be all original, with the proper Sekurit stampings on each of the side panes and the rear window. The front windshield is stamped Sigla, as it should be. All the glass is clean and clear, with no issues present and no deamination showing. The black trim surrounding the windows is in great condition, with a smooth finish and excellent fitment. The rubber trim throughout the car remains in fantastic condition with great color and a nice supple nature. The accordions on the sides of the bumpers, often a common issue with these vehicles, fit nicely and show excellent color. There is some minor scratching to the lower lip as well as on the bumper over riders on the rear of the car. There is a small stone chip in the black trim on the bottom edge of the windshield, as well as a few more minor stone chips here and there on the windshield surround.


The wheels are the correct five-spoke Fuch wheels with painted centers and polished lips. They remain in excellent condition with clean, polished surfaces and smooth painted centers and lugs. There are a few minor stone chips on the painted faces, but the wheels appear to likely be the original finish as well, given the overall mileage of the car. The center caps contain a bit of fading, but overall, they tie into the original nature of the car fantastically.

Notable Flaws

Given the highly original nature of this Carrera, there are inherent flaws that come with the territory, largely relegated to small stone chips in high traffic and wear areas such as the front of the vehicle. There are also some minor scratches, but nothing that takes away from the overall quality and character of the car, especially given its highly original nature. Please review the photos in detail to truly understand the exact condition of this vehicle.


Seats And Surfaces

The interior of this car presents in excellent original condition. Overall, the interior is very in line with the mileage and careful ownership that this car has received. The sport seats with their deep bolsters show in excellent condition with just a small bit of patina developing in the form of minor creasing and light patina to the bolsters on the driver’s side, as well as some very minor creasing to the seating surface on the driver’s side seat. The passenger side seat has fared remarkably well and shows minimal wear. The rear seats are also in excellent condition and have seen minimal usage. The leather-covered dash has a bit of warping where it meets the windshield and some pulling around the vent located in the center of the dash. None of this, however, takes away from the excellent and well-preserved nature of the interior. The driver-side door shows a bit of scratching from entry and exit when pulling the handle. The carpets retain excellent color and weave as well as fitment. The headliner remains nice and tight and shows no issues whatsoever. The three spokes steering wheel remains in fantastic condition with clean stitching and a nice smooth center horn button. The rim has just a bit of scratching, mainly relegated to the lower section of it, likely from normal usage. The gauges all remain clean and clear with excellent color, visibility, and readability. The original unleaded fuel-only sticker is still attached to the fuel gauge, and the dash is adorned with the sticker, indicating how to use the cruise control. The remainder of the buttons, switches, and knobs throughout the cabin show to be in excellent condition with bright, clean, and clear graphics.

Functionality And Accessories

Everything on the interior appears to function as it should during our brief testing. The gauges all read their requisite functions as they should, the doors open and close with ease, and the power windows roll up and down smoothly. The shifter moves easily through its range of motion, and the overhead lights, situated above the doors, illuminate when the doors are opened. The HVAC system appears to function as it should, although extensive testing was not carried out. The glove box light works, as it should illuminating when the door is opened. The power-operated sunroof also moves forward and backward with ease, as it should. Overall it appears everything on the interior has received the proper attention it needed and remains in good order.


Engine Bay

The engine bay remains in good original condition, much like the rest of the vehicle. Factory markings and stickers adorn the entirety of the engine bay. Correct components were utilized when servicing the engine, and from an exterior perspective, it appears that there are no issues to speak of. The oil cooler located on the underside of the lid is in good condition, with only a few misaligned fins. Oftentimes, these coolers can get very beat up, but this one remains in good condition. Factory spot welds are clearly present around the edges of the engine bay. The whale tail spoiler has its proper Porsche crest and insignia located just below the rubber lip. Overall, it is a very genuine and original engine bay that shows to have had the proper servicing and upkeep throughout its lifetime.

Trunk Area

The front trunk area is, likewise, in good order. The carpets are a bit baggy, but overall fitment is acceptable, and the weave and color are still in good order. One of the snaps has separated from the side carpeting on the passenger side, but the remaining snaps all appear to be in good order. Lifting the carpet reveals a clean and tidy front trunk area with a factory space saver spare that appears to have seen minimal if any, use ever. The color designation sticker, as well as the Vin stamp, are clearly present, and there are factory markings throughout the bulk of the front trunk area as well. Lifting the lid to the blower box reveals no issues to speak of, and factory markings are present here as well. The underside of the hood is clean and tidy and contains the proper options code sticker.


The underside of this car presents very genuinely and in line with the mileage. There are some minor rock chips on the undersides of the rear quarter panels behind the wheels. The wheel wells appear a touch dirty but very genuine and original. The rockers are in good order, with no creasing or issues to be noted. There is a small dent just above the front license plate mounting hole on the passenger side, but it has not broken the paint. Suspension components show no issues but do have a bit of road dirt accumulation on them. It is our opinion that this car would benefit greatly from a good dry ice cleaning on the underside, which would no doubt reveal fantastic factory finishes throughout. Overall, though, the underside remains genuine and honest and appears in line with the great original nature of the rest of the vehicle. It does not show to have any issues past or present.



The 3.2 L flat-six engine fires to life with ease and has the stereotypical air-cooled Porsche growl. It settles into a smooth idle as the temperature climbs and shows no issues in its running nature. Out on the road, this car makes excellent power in a superb linear nature. There are no flat spots or stumbling in acceleration, and the car pulls wonderfully throughout the entire rev range. It is very clear, given the excellent running nature of the engine, that this car has received the proper servicing and care throughout its lifetime.


The 5-speed transmission shifts easily through the gears and engages each gear properly. It does take some getting used to driving these earlier gearboxes as the shifting has to be a bit more deliberate in order to smoothly find gears when traveling at pace. The clutch feels strong and responsive, and it has proper take-up and excellent feedback. Overall, there are no issues to note here and the car drives wonderfully.

Brakes And Suspension

The suspension feels extremely tight, much like it must have when this car was new. It holds the road excellently and provides fantastic feedback. The steering is light and nimble, and there are no odd road noises or behaviors to speak of. The brakes bring the car to a smooth and controlled stop with no issues to note. Overall, this car drives immaculately and is truly a joy to be behind the wheel.


The tires are Bridgestone Penza RE970AS pole positions on all four corners. The rears are 225/50R16 with date codes of 2016. The front also have the codes of 2016 and our sized 205/55/R16. Even though the tires contain nice supple sidewalls and ample tread, if extended use is to be carried out, we would recommend putting a new set of tires on given the age of the current ones.


As you approach this car, you are greeted first by the fantastic color of the Kiln Red exterior, which compliments the classic flowing lines of this Carrera wonderfully. As you look closer, you notice the wonderful original nature of the car, which lends itself perfectly to driving and enjoying this air-cooled beauty, which is exactly what this car is best at. The engine feels incredibly strong, and the suspension is tight and compliant with light and nimble steering. Oftentimes, these cars can feel a bit sloppy, but this example remains extremely tight and feels much like it must have when new. The well-optioned interior with the bucketed sports seats is a pleasant place to pilot this wonderful car from. There are many 911s out there, but this one, with its thoroughly original nature and rare-colored exterior, presents a unique opportunity to have the perfect drivers 911 that will turn heads no matter where you go.
