1994 Porsche 911 (964) Speedster for sale!

Complete With Porsche COA, Factory Manuals, Jack, Spare, And Available Service Records – Chassis # WP0CB2963RS465402 – Engine # 62P06256

In between the Porsche 964 and its successor, the Porsche 993, the German marque released the Speedster in 1994. The car could be bought in either standard or a lightweight trim called “clubsport.” It was marketed as more of a focused “driver’s car” and thus lacked many of the luxuries found in a regular 964 Cabriolet and a softer suspension than the more track-focused 964 RS. Power windows were standard, but AC, cruise control and a radio were offered as options. The Speedster would also have what came to be known as “camel hump” cowlings behind the seat, where the manual top would be stowed away.

Das Fahrzeug im Detail

Porsche originally planned to build 3,000 Speedsters over two years, but only 936 ended up being produced, with approximately 469 making their way stateside.

This particular example, Chassis #WP0CB2963RS465402, is one of those 469 cars. According to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the car was manufactured on the 13th of July, 1993, and finished in Grand Prix White with white seat backs. It came with cruise control, AC, and black Porsche floor mats as optional equipment. This one was also equipped with the desirable lightweight fixed-back Recaro Pole Position seats. Under the hood is a 3.6 L flat-six that outputs 355 hp and 384 lb-ft through a five-speed manual transmission.

It was purchased by its first owner in December of 1993 and registered in Ohio. In August of 1997, the title was updated to a New York title and again to a Pennsylvania title in December of that same year. The Speedster was then reportedly sold at an auto auction in February of 1998 and again in August with 29,109 miles on the odometer. It should be noted that the CARFAX entry for 10/29/1999 shows a vehicle service but also states a “potential odometer rollback.” This appears to us to be a clerical error when converting to kilometers, an all too common occurrence when US cars are shipped out of the country. We are currently working to get this addressed and will update the description once that is accomplished. The car continued having services reported until July of 2001.

In May of 2002, the car made was imported to Puerto Rico by its second owner. They held on to it until March of 2003, when it moved to its third owner. The third owner carried the torch and took care of the Speedster until 2005, when it once again changed hands. The fourth owner ended up holding on to it for ten years until 2015, when it was purchased by its fifth owner and made its way back to the States. It went on to live in Florida until we acquired the car earlier this year.

When we received the car, it was very straight and original and matched the Porsche COA, except for the Porsche Becker CDR-220 radio that one of the previous owners installed. As it sits, this 1994 Porsche Speedster is a rare and unique example that is sure to improve any collection it graces. The driving experience is also further accentuated with the top down, allowing the air-cooled cylinders behind you to sing more clearly into your ears. Let her eat that 7000 rpm redline; she’s happy to do it. You paid for the entire tachometer; after all, it’s only right that Porsche allows you to use all of it!

Upon purchase, the new owner will receive the original owner’s manuals, the correct jack, spare, and emergency accessories, the radio manual, the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and available service records.

EXTERIOR

Body And Paint

The body is straight down the sides with excellent shut gaps. The paint, while we suspect to not be original, contains deep color, is shiny, and consistent with minor blemishes as is expected from a car with this sort of mileage. There are a few stone chips on the bottom left portion of the hood as well as on the headlight surrounds. The top is very nice with no rips. The clear plastic window is slightly faded but acceptable and the paint matched boot cover is in excellent condition as well.

Glass And Trim

The glass is all original with original warning stickers and insignias. No cracks or scratches. The windshield is also original and shows some faint stone peppering in certain lighting with one small chip towards the bottom center.

Wheels

The body color matched wheels condition is generally good. Upon close inspection of the driver side front wheel some corrosion of the paint has occurred, and would likely need reconditioning but is very minor.

Notable Flaws

Quarter sized area of paint has faded away on the front driver side wheel. Small chips on the hood and headlight surrounds.

INTERIOR

Seats And Surfaces

The interior is in overall decent condition considering the mileage with no major flaws to note. The aggressive Recaro ‘Pole Position’ seats have suffered wear in the areas you would expect as ingress and egress can be difficult. The seat inserts are showing some age with creases as well as the driver side bottom insert having a circular stain from past use.

Functionality And Accessories

All of the systems aside from the radio appear to function properly including the lights, turn signals, Heater, A/C, top, and window regulators. There are no warning lights that are lit on the dash.

ENGINE BAY AND TRUNK

Engine Bay

The engine bay is very original, clean and still has much of its factory finishes and original stickers. The engine compartment struts work as they should and there are no other issues noteworthy.

Trunk Area

The trunk area is very tidy, original, and free from any major blemishes or stains. The factory-applied VIN sticker is still present on the underside of the hood and the common faulty hood struts function as they should.

MECHANICALS

Engine

The engine fires to life with one crank of the starter and does not smoke. It idles well with no other notable issues, strange noises etc.

Transmission

The transmission functions as it should with smooth shifts, and what we deem to be plenty of clutch pedal.

Brakes And Suspension

Brakes function well with no notable issues found and the front pads and rotors have been replaced with virtually zero mileage since. The suspension is firm, reacting to adverse road surfaces and undulations well. No strange noises were noticed upon the test drive.

Tires

The brand new tires are all Michelin Pilot Sports. It is a staggered set up, 205 in the front and 255 in the rear.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

The driving experience is wonderful. With the roof off on an early summer evening, few experiences can top this. Acceleration is plentiful and the engine revs free up to its near 7000 rpm redline.
