In order to preserve it as well as possible, it is not driven in the winter months (October to March) and the Porsche is kept on the trickle charger in a heated, dry garage. In the summer months the 996 sometimes comes out, but only when the weather is nice. So not with rain, cold or other weather conditions that can affect the beautiful condition in which this Porsche is. In 2019 the car was provided with a protective coating, which ensures that the beautiful condition of the paint is preserved. Due to the unique condition of this 911 Turbo, a test drive is only possible by appointment.
Thanks to its configuration, this specific 911 Turbo is a rare specimen. The beautiful red paintwork was ordered from Porsche at the special request of the first owner, as well as the red seat belts and Porsche weapons in the headrests of the sports seats. A unique composition, because there are very few red 996 Turbo’s for sale in Europe. And the copies out there do not have the special interior options that this car does have. You will therefore not soon encounter a configuration that is exactly the same as this one.
History of the Porsche 911 Turbo
The story of the 911 Turbo began in 1974, when Porsche engineers mounted a turbo block in the rear of a G model and named it ‚930‘. The car was widened and got a huge rear spoiler, equipped with an air vent. This spoiler ensures that the engine is cooled while driving, by feeding the air that slides over the 911 to the engine compartment. With 275 horsepower on the rear wheels and hardly any safety systems, the first Turbo was a very challenging car, which has left many a driver a dent in his ego. It is a real, pure sports car, which can only be driven at the limit by skilled drivers.
Following the example of the 930, the 964 and the 993, Porsche introduced the 996 in 1998. This model is mainly recognizable by its different lighting, because it is the only generation of the 911 that does not have round headlights. In 2000 it was time for the most powerful version: the Turbo. Powered by a 3.6 liter six-cylinder with 420 hp, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.2 seconds, while it only stops accelerating at a top speed of 305 km / h. The Turbo is also 6 centimeters wider than the ’normal‘ 996, it has bi-xenon headlights and a fixed rear spoiler. Shifting is done with a manual six-speed gearbox or a five-speed Tiptronic automatic.
This red copy of the 996 Turbo is equipped with the coveted manual gearbox. Its handling is unmatched thanks to permanent all-wheel drive, while the large turbo on the six-cylinder makes this a seriously fast car. It has excellent grip everywhere and does not bite back like an old 911 does. But of course it remains a Porsche. This means that the red coupé steers well and can be placed well thanks to the refined sports suspension, but that only the better drivers really let this car excel.
The black three-spoke sports steering wheel fits comfortably in your hand and gives you good feedback on what the front wheels of the 911 are doing. This involves you as a driver better in the driving and contributes to the ultimate sports car experience. The electrically adjustable and heated sports seats hold you firmly during a sporty driving style, while also offering comfort during a longer journey. Both the seats and the steering wheel are covered with black leather, as are the door panels.
The electric sliding-tilting roof provides some more light in the interior, while the 911 has tinted and heat-resistant glass at the rear so that it does not get too hot in the car. If the temperature does rise a bit, the red Turbo has air conditioning. In the rather small back seat you can store bags and other items, or possibly your children.
When you walk around the car, the 18-inch light-alloy wheels immediately catch the eye. This set is specially designed for the 996 Turbo, making the appearance of this Porsche completely original. The car also has a number of options on the outside. The exterior mirrors are electrically foldable and automatically dimming, the xenon headlights provide illumination and the parking sensors at the front and rear make it easier to park the Porsche. Fully equipped, especially for a 2001 car.
