The Porsche 718 RSK succeeded the famous 550 Spyder in 1957 and its main task was to win races. The more legendary, the better. Among others, the Targa Florio (won), the 24 Hours of Le Mans (winner in its class) and even Formula 1. Depending on how many racing successes the 718 has achieved and what condition the car is in, the model goes under the hammer for amounts that fluctuate between 3 and 5 million euros. With the 718 Recreation you can taste a piece of the successes achieved, without immediately paying the main price. While this is also ‘just’ a real Porsche under the skin! Includes shortened wheelbase compared to the 550 Spyder, which has the letter ‘K’ in RSK. With the RS from RennSport, of course. Whether the 718 is still current? Thanks to the new type designation of the Boxster and Cayman most certainly!
The 718 RSK is not only technically, but also optically a clear evolution of the predecessor 550 Spyder. Characteristic of both models are, for example, the air vents for the rear wheel and the round headlights. The latter are optically extended in the case of the Porsche 718 and are hidden behind plastic hoods. This is no coincidence: the entire front has become a bit longer compared to the Porsche 550 Spyder, which makes it look and is more aerodynamic as a whole. In addition, the single rear light units now received double copies on both sides. It doesn’t make the 718 RSK any less minimalistic and pure…
Speaking of which: there are few things as minimalist and pure as the interior of a Porsche 718. A dashboard shines through its absence; you look directly at the silver body with only the speedometer incorporated. That’s all you need… The wooden 3-spoke steering wheel breathes the 1970s and the classic bucket seats have a beautiful diamond pattern in contrasting colour. A matter of putting on the supplied time-correct helmet + goggles and it’s as if time has stood still!
Under the hood we find typical Porsche DNA in traditional form: the 1.3 liter 4-cylinder boxer engine produces 120 hp and was recently provided with excellent service by us. In combination with the extremely lightweight configuration and newly fitted clutch, the 718 RSK Recreation is still capable of impressive performance in its old age: acceleration from 0-100 km/h can be achieved in 7.9 seconds! There is no shortage of grip either: the replica Porsche stands on 15-inch steel wheels surrounded by Vredestein Sprint Classic rubber. As befits a historical (beautiful) model. In short, time to sprint towards Prins and then run your own ‘race’. In style. So you are a winner anyway.
Sincerely, Prince Classics.
