The vehicle in detail

The 356A Cabrio was produced from October 1955, internally called the T1 version, and was superseded by the T2 version in September 1957. At the end of production of the beloved A-Type Porsche 356 only 3,369 A-Cabriolets were built, all by Reutter. This was only marginally more than the famous Speedster, of which a little over 3,100 were built.

The Cabriolets were adorned by owners at the time for being a very usable and elegant drop-top car. This particular car comes with both a Hard- and a Soft Top and originally featured a beautiful classic color scheme.

History: Chassis #151*** was completed at Stuttgart, Zuffenhausen in late October 1958 and supplied new as a Left Hand Drive 1959 model via Hoffmann, New York. It was original presented with Ivory body colour and Red Leatherette, this scheme is still current on the car today.

FIRST OWNER: Unknown – Purchase Date: unknown

SUBSEQUENT OWNERS: Unknown

Comment: No record of ownership is available. It is assumed the car spent part of its life in California as it was discovered there.

Condition

Body: The body has been restored to a very good finish and is now ready to be prepared for its final finish.

Interior: A good deal of the original interior is present. Various parts are required to complete the restoration. This Cabriolet would benefit from a full re-upholstery, including the Soft Top and a new lining for the Hard Top.

Engine: A complete check and rebuilld of the engine is recommended. Most, if not all, of the engine parts are present for a straight-forward rebuild to original specification. Of course, having the engine apart gives one the option to use higher spec parts, improving driving entertainment even further.

Transmission: The original 4-speed transmission is present and in good working order.

Roadworthiness: The car has undergone a significant part of a full nut-and-bolt restoration. The brake system has been renewed as well. However, to gain full roadworthiness, all the mechanicals should be checked, completed were required and finally checked for proper operation.
