2.7 RS Homage.

Here we have a 2.7 RS homage built on a late (1988) G50 3.2 shell, which offers the benefit of the early car aesthetics but with the practicality and usability of the later G50 series chassis and suspension, combined with a 5 speed gear box, Air conditioning, heated seats and power steering, the car was built for comfort and long distance cruising, whilst retaining the charming engagement that the early cars have, it a pleasure to use rather than a chore, which often so many backdates and early cars can feel like.  The car does exactly what it set out to do, combining the legendary aura and raw ability of the 2.7RS with the usability, comfort and convenience of an 80’s 911, in excellent condition throughout with factory standards of fit and finish.

The vehicle in detail

It was built by recognised marc specialist JAZ with the original body conversion work by Sportwagon who are one of the very best for 2.7 RS body work, they carried out a full steel “long bonnet conversion” with Porsche OEM supplied panels, at the same time the car was refinished in Aubergine, including engine bay with a dusting of paint as original into front boot area. Wheel arch areas are also in body colour. Starting from a bare shell, the pre-74 look is achieved with new steel front wings, front slam panel, full length steel bonnet, rear engine lid, with early spec, steel full length sills. Fitting new factory panels. Rear bumpers is in Steel ” tour ing” spec. Front bumper in GRP, “burzel” ducktail in GRP. Supply and fit new ” S” t r i m to front and rear bumpers. It is fitted with lower side sills as per touring spec. All fittings are genuine factor y parts.

The engine was stripped and rebuilt for fast road use with Jerry wood fast road cams, GT2 head studs new big end shells, new rod  bolts. Fit new  valve  guides and competition  valve springs and retainers. Set up valve spring tensions along Strip and detail inlet manifold,  plating all part s as necessary with the tin ware being powder coated combined with all the detail work you would expect of a quality build, it runs RS type stainless heat exchanges and rear silencer and is fitted with Airconditioning for comfort.

The gearbox was stripped checked and fettled as required and is fitted with a Limited slip differential. Which provides greater corner entry stability when pushing on in the car.

The car has completed approx. 35,000 miles since the initial build in 2011. Servicing has always been with recognised specialists such as Tuthill’s, Jaz and most recently GTR and Ninemeister.

The interior received a high quality make over and is trimmed in leather where appropriate with RS door cards and has the correct switch gear and instruments, the Recaro seat are a personal choice that reflect the build spec for “comfortable cruising” and are part electric with heating and cooling fans and are a pleasure to do be in for any journey. If a more period aesthetic was preferred fitting a set of modern period correct D’eser seats would be an easy and inexpensive option.

The wheels are 7×16 and 9×16 fuchs wheels. These were reconditioned into polished 73 style with special matt finish to the return on the rears.

Its fitted with a Becker Mexico radio The integrated Bluetooth function will give hands-free calling while the navigation can either be planned at home or office on a PC and downloaded onto a Compact Flash card or made directly on the unit via its own 2GB card that holds navigation data for 34 countries. Of course the Becker Mexico also plays music to a superlative standard of quality. It can take as a source a remote CD player, an iPod or direct from a Flash card. A graphic equaliser display is available.

The original build was finished in 2011  at a cost of £80,000 + vat and has in recent times received a full body refresh which included replacement sills minor wing repairs and a repaint, which was carried out in 2020 by GTR motorsport at a cost of £32k, so the buyer can be reassured that there is no corrosion lurking anywhere on this car, subsequently it was fitted with a EZ Electric Power Steering conversion taking the usual heft out of low-speed manoeuvres, yet retaining all the fulsome 911 steering feel that you expect/want as the pace picks up. In short, the best of both worlds.

In December 2021 a full and comprehensive mechanical makeover was undertaken comprising of all new suspension, including turbo steering arms which help with bump steer and Discs  pad’s along with handbrake shoe replacement, front wheel bearings and seals, along with a full GEO at a combined cost of £10k. which means this is now a very well sorted vehicle ready to enjoy the next chapter of its life and it will be a pleasure to own.

As you would expect, it drives like a late Carrera 3.2, which, to be clear, is a very good thing, still feeling tight and taught, befitting its full rebuild status. Being based on a late Carrera 3.2, it also benefits from the clean and quick shifting Getrag G50 gearbox, the car offers a bland of old school charm along with usability,

As you would expect it comes with a very comprehensive service and build history and is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.
