Photographed here, our 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is finished in its original color combination of Grand-Prix White over a Black leather interior and has traveled only 11,132 miles since new. Having never left collector grade care, this particular 911 is in exceptional condition and is ready for another lifetime of use.
Introduced to the world in 1983, the Cabriolet revolutionized the already iconic 911. Announced initially as the final iteration of the Super Carrera (SC) which had a production run from 1978-1983, the Cabriolet welcomed an entirely new 911 buyer—the convertible lover.
1986 was an interesting year for the 911…by 1984, Porsche had just completed a very successful and rejuvenating run with the SC—it saved the 911! But, what to do next was quite the challenge. With too many “G” bodies left, they had to continue production with the famed shape. Enter, the 911 Carrera.
That’s right, it wasn’t until 1984 that the 911 model line would officially be called the “Carrera”. Prior to this, any Carrera badging simply denoted a trim level or package, i.e. the optional “Carrera Pack” on the 1974 911. The Carrera would run from 1984 to 1989—the first half fitted with the tried-and-true 915 gearbox and the second half (’87 – ’89) featured the legendary, 959 developed, G-50 transmission.
