Porsche 911 2.3 E / TARGA

For many, the most desirable Targa is the post-’68 and pre-74, ie the “longshut” with the glass rear window. Simply the visually most attractive. The “clean” front with integrated bumpers overflowing into the slender body and the spoilerless rear is clear and beautiful without being noisy and the minimal chromed use makes the large rear window even more noticeable.

The naturally breathable, air-cooled 6-cylinder 2.4 liter boxer engine, equipped with two Weber carburetors for 165 hp. That is perhaps less than you find in a little hot hatchback nowadays, but that is not the case with this type of car. The experience, that’s what it’s about. And that starts with the ultimate blue paint in combination with the brown interior, big boy if you dare to order it on a 991. But in 1973 this was a great combination, the optional original “cookie cutter” rims were also popular at the time.

The interior of this Targa with brown leather upholstered seats, brown carpet. The whole has been professionally renewed in the past and is in good condition. The bodywork has been restored, where necessary sheet metal parts have been replaced or repaired, and the body has been restored to its original state and repainted in the beautiful blue paint instead of the original brown. The body is tight, cool, and damage free.

Time to put that tasty six cylinder to work. Which was tackled less than a thousand kilometers ago by Porsche Classic Gelderland. At the same time the brakes were done, clutch and pressure group replaced and a whole list of activities, invoices totaling almost € 19,000, – were present. The key goes, the starter motor gives only one tap and immediately the six-cylinder turns on and follows the delicious coughing roll of the boxer. First a little restless to slowly start to slow down, so you know you can drive.

And driving, these cars do so well. Not perfect, certainly not. But there is something about driving a 1970s Porsche 911 that is hard to put into words. The feeling that you are on the road with a kind of primal car, that does nothing more than you ask it except just driving. And put a smile on your face. In the beginning very careful, but also the five box in this 911 never misses a stroke and so you forget that at a given moment. It remains special that you can give a 40-year-old car that way, without that car shrinking.

Also steering in a 911 of this age remains a pleasure. The sports steering wheel gives very precise information about what happens under the front wheels. The same handlebar that passes all your input flawlessly to the front wheels, so you can aim the 911 very precisely a turn. It is incredibly satisfying. Just because driving with this kind of cars is so pure and basic driving.

There are really only advantages to a classic Porsche, from almost therapeutic driving to not having to pay road tax. We invite you cordially with us in the showroom to view this Targa.

The Targa was valued at € 130,000 in July 2018, –
