The iconic gt3 nameplate has been used by porsche since 1999, and first imported to the us in 2004 on the 996 body. Similar to the early rs cars, gt3s were developed to handle themselves on and off the racetrack. This is a true drivers car that can be driven to the racetrack, on the racetrack, and then home at the end of day.
The 2015 model year came with entirely new gt3 based on the on the new 991 chassis. A heavily modified version of the of the 3.8 Liter engine used in the carrera s model which now produces 475 horsepower. The new 3.8 Engine uses titanium connecting rods attached to forged pistons which allow the engine to reach up to 9,000 rpm. The engine has been mated to the newest version of porsches porsche doppelkupplung (pdk) double clutch transmission producing flawless shifts at blistering speeds through paddles attached to the steering wheel developed through porsches motorsports team. This model also includes active rear steering, only available on the the gt3. The active rear steering monitors turning speeds and g forces on the car to actively turn the back wheels with or against the motion of the vehicle to achieve maximum grip.
Porsche claims 0-60 times of 3.1 Seconds or less and the quarter mile in 11.2 Seconds at 126 mph. Lap times of the nrburgring can be completed in 7 minutes and 25 seconds.
