Porsche 911 RSR / Iroc Replica / Viper Green – DLS Automobile

The IROC-RSR presented here was originally born as a simple 1975 911 2.7 S, until around the year 2007 he came to the aid of a dear, well-known man who had very different plans with it. The once brave basic model of the 911 came to the renowned Porsche forge Patutschnik and was first disassembled to the body shell, stripped, and then rebuilt screw by screw and cm for cm as easy as possible, finally with welded through body seams, widely used gusset plates and welded roll cage converted to a serious racing car. Of course, much more is needed on the lightest and stiffest possible body – for example, a stronger 915 gearbox with 60% lock, the engine with about 40% more displacement, and about 100% more power than its standard counterpart. the brake system of the 930 Turbo (or 917 as you like) and finally the drastically modified H & R coilover suspension with double spring legs instead of the already grazed torsion bar springs.

The vehicle in detail

The idea of Roger Penske – one of the most influential (and successful) team owners in US motorsport – the International Race of Champions, also known as IROC, was conceived as an off-season competition to bring together the world's best racers.

In the first season, which took place in the winter of 1973/74, riders from Formula 1, IndyCar, NASCAR and Can-Am met at the Riverside Raceway and in Daytona for four events and a prize money of 175,000 USD.

All 12 drivers were at the wheel of customized Porsche 911 Carrera RSR. The 15 cars specially built by Weissach for the television series were painted in a variety of television-friendly, bright colors from light yellow to acid blue. A unique feature of this series was that the drivers were assigned a different vehicle from the pool of available RSR at each race and thus the vehicles were looked after and maintained by a total of no driver team, but by the organizer.

As already mentioned, the IROC RSRs are truly unique creations. The 15 vehicles, a hybrid of 2.8 and 3.0-liter RSR, were built in late 1973 with RSR bumpers of the G-series and the then new 3.0-liter 911/74-Flat-Six. However, the vehicles left the factory with the legendary duck rump and were then individually modified.
After the end of the first IROC series Penske sold the 15 cars in 1974 to private racers and various teams.

Thus, this road legal (all changes are TÜV-compliant registered H-approval!) Racing vehicle a fantastic weight-performance ratio of well below 1000 kg to well over 300 hp and above all ample displacement of 3600 cc. Who ever drove a light 911, needs no instruction or explanation. However, anyone who does not yet know this mixture should familiarize themselves with the subject of driving and the associated physics again!
Not only the braking and steering points change drastically in such vehicles. The time on the short straight between curves of any kind seems to fly away in fast motion. Apparently well-known "house lines" have to be rediscovered even by talented pilots, especially if they include inclines. The low weight of the car with some practice allows for braking points of which one would have dared not dream in today's vehicles. Mounted Semislicks with street legality help as reliably as the powerful brake for this vehicle and weight with all necessary reserves. The generous displacement with corresponding performance characteristics allows a kind of gear-poor driving style, because virtually from every situation and speed out performance is available. And finally, we are at the keyword "performance", which is more than abundant for this vehicle genre and almost always the pilot is the one who can choose the desired speed, with which it preferably goes uphill.

Usually more than necessary. Of all.

Except for the viper green. Unfortunately, we can not get enough of that, dear reader. You can not ignore this car if you pass it. This happens in our case and in our hall sometimes tens of times a day. And just as often is the view of the "racing frog" in contrast to many, other, quite interesting vehicles mainly of the house Porsche. Maybe this will settle over time, but at the moment, this vehicle is the eye-magnet par excellence.

With good reason, as we think. If you want to approach such a project to rebuild and rebuild an old Porsche, prepare yourself for a good 3-year wait, large 6-digit sums and the intake of plenty of nerve food.

With the market development of old Porsche took not the vehicles themselves, but also their required spare parts a rapid uphill journey. The hourly rates of high-paid, recognized Porsche specialist went a similar way, and finally the "raw material" a spent, old 911, is now also many times more expensive than it was 10 or more years ago. You can not stop the wheel of time, dear reader.

So, should you have always wanted to have such a groomed Porsche, and should he be allowed to drive on public roads as legally as possible, and should he finally have been built with almost "bulletproof", rock-solid technology, so that you really only minimal Maintenance, but want to get maximum driving pleasure, then you have most likely arrived at the end of your search for this vehicle.

For specific interested parties, we are very happy and almost always open to listen and can show you the car in detail and describe. We have known him for a long time and know where he came from and how well he was treated.

If he convinces you, you can almost take him right away. And you know what you get. This advantage is actually priceless compared to your own project. And yet – you'll be surprised how inexpensive even a Porsche like this can be today.
