This Porsche 911 T Targa is a desirable classic sports car, now fitted with a revised 993-era 3.6-litre ‘Varioram’ flat-six, along with a raft of sensible upgrades to the suspension and brakes. From the start, the philosophy behind this project was to reach the optimum balance between power, handling, comfort and drivability, by using specialist know-how and the best quality parts available to match the attention to detail of the original Porsche engineering. This classic Porsche 911 is described as offering ‘super performance’ but in a surprisingly discreet cosmetic package, and with no electronic aids to provide a helping hand. Now vastly more exciting but also more usable on modern roads, it would make an engaging weekend toy for any Porsche enthusiast, or a fun addition to a collection of modified classics.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This 911 Targa is finished in Silver Metallic, with a black Targa top and 16-inch Fuchs wheels, shod in Pirelli P-Zero N4 tyres.
  • Inside, it is highly equipped, with electrically adjustable and heated black leather-trimmed sport seats, leather door panels, dashboard cover, grab handles and other trim.
  • It is also fitted with a Becker Traffic Pro head unit with aux-input for an iPod, an amplifier, Gladen high-performance loudspeakers and an in-windscreen antenna.

  • It has modified engine covers, plus a custom engine bracket and exhaust system to fit in the classic chassis.
  • The electrical system was cleaned and tidied, as were the fuel lines, and the car makes use of the original components and engine wiring loom, connectors and clamps.
  • The car now has a twin front oil cooler set (911 Carrera 3.2 specification) with thermostat and fan.
  • Its modified exhaust system does without a catalyst but has full heater function.
  • It is now coupled to a 1986-model ‘915/72’ five-speed manual gearbox from a Carrera 3.2, complete with a limited-slip differential, reinforced needle bearings, extended fourth and fifth gear sets and uprated Swepco 210 transmission fluid.
  • The underside now features a modified 911 SC 3.0 front axle, a raised steering rack, a Turbo tie-rod kit, upgraded sway and torsion bars, Bilstein B6 shock absorbers and rear aluminium 911 2.7-specification small-body trailing arms.
  • Stopping power comes from a set of larger 964 Turbo brake callipers, with slotted discs, a sports master cylinder, Goodridge steel hoses, ATE Racing ‘Blue’ brake fluid and a front cooling duct.
  • The exterior of the car has also been fitted with a 911 S-style front spoiler and rear LED brake and reverse lights have also been installed, whilst a welded cross bar has been added to the front storage compartment and the battery has been relocated for an improved centre of gravity.
  • Accompanying the vehicle will be its original owner’s manuals, spare key, air compressor and jack, along with the factory-supplied matching-numbers crankcase and inspection documents.
