1977 PORSCHE 911 3.0 TURBO COUPE for sale!

Associating the nickname “widowmaker” with something irresistible seems like a mission impossible. Not if your name is Porsche 911 Turbo, type 930. Because how enviable he is, this flawlessly maintained 3.0 Turbo! A legend, whose hands not only start to spontaneously itch, but also start to tremble slightly. Because well, that nickname…

DESIGN: What does it take to build such a name? To start with, frighteningly good looks. The 930 Turbo is strikingly set, with its extremely flared wheel arches and hips. That great big “tea tray” rear spoiler (a raised “whale tail” after intercooler placement) also does a lot, of course, and is inextricably linked to the blown German. The contrast with the standard slender 911 profile makes the most explosive version of the iconic “Elfer” all the more desirable. And the first owner had done his best to wrap it all up discreetly in modest black, including black (original!) leather interior. Sorry, it didn’t work out. So that does appear to be a “mission impossible”.

The vehicle in detail

A SPECIAL FEATURE OF THE 1978 930 TURBO:
Up to and including model year 1977 the bonnet was made of glass fibre reinforced plastic. From model year 1978 the bonnet was made of sheet steel and the fixed rear wing was much larger to integrate the charge air cooler. This makes the design of the older turbo cars unique, it makes them even more exclusive and also more expensive as classics.

TECHNOLOGY
It cannot have been the engine’s fault. Or is it… The fact is that releasing 260 horsepower on the rear wheels of a car where the centre of gravity is literally in the back is asking for trouble. This combined with the short wheelbase means that even the experienced driver will have his or her hands full with this lightning fast Porsche. The Turbo has an oversteering character; “loos tail” they call it in fine English. A wagging tail in Dutch. Porsche proved not to be sensitive to the reputation of the widowmaker. The handling can scare the hell out of you, but it can also be enormously satisfying. So if you get the hips during a test drive, then you have been warned…

GENERAL

The Turbo is damage free and technically – both engine and electrical – in excellent original condition. Recently, both the engine and the block were overhauled by Porsche Gelderland.
