Respect The Reaper: The Infamous Widowmaker

In the 1970s, in the midst of the oil crisis, Porsche came on the market with a revolutionary supercar. After lightweight Carrera RS top models had been the standard bearers of the brand for a while, the Germans took a completely different direction with the 930; for many the ultimate classic 911. It was the first production car that made use of a turbocharger, and the direct predecessor of the 911 Turbo and GT2 as we know it today.

The Widowmaker. Sure, now it’s a tough nickname from a bygone era, but at the time it was not really a funny story when you started to break out of turbo after the turbo boost blew in with force. Because of the German refinement, the challenging performance but especially the will to “mid-corner-snap-oversteer” it did not take long before the car journalists from then began to compare the personality of the 930 with that of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Even though the 930 is pretty tricky to really control it, if you succeed or come close to it, this gives such an incredibly rewarding row sensation which is comparable to a few others.

The 930 is not directly the most circuit-oriented Porsche, but that was not the whole point of this car either. The 930 Turbo is built as the ultimate Autobahn Grand Tourer. Comfortable but also ridiculously fast. The 930 was on the throne in the 70s as one of the fastest production cars, a title that he could carry until well into the 1980s.

DESIGN
Until 1975, the 911 lineup consisted mainly of a few different option kits and different engines, but the chassis on which this was based was largely identical. In addition to a few special Rennsport models, the 911s from the first ten years were mainly known for their large external agreement. All this changed when the 930 came out.
Even though the 930 is unmistakably a 911, it is also immediately distinguishable from the rest of the 911 pedigree thanks to the extended body. Due to the considerable increase in engine power, and the binary collapsing turbos, a lot more grip was needed to achieve the optimum performance. Not to mention danger for a moment if you would give such a monster to the common man on the thin straps of a standard 911.
The track width was widened and the wheel arches and rear screens pulled over the wider wheels. To further improve the grip the now iconic rubber “whale tail” spoiler was placed which functioned as air supply to the intercooler. The wide and low stance which is extra accentuated by the spoiler still makes a very bold statement wherever you go. Last but not least, the subtle “Turbo” on the engine cover that hints on the cochlea behind it.

THE CAR
This “black on black”, numbers matching (!) 1985 Porsche 911 Turbo is a car specified for the German / European market.
Delivered new in Stockholm on 24-4-1985 by VAG Lindhagensplan. Car is imported to the Netherlands from UK in 2016, has got a mileage counter in UK, this has been replaced again to kilometer with certificate the 60dkm should be the original mileage.

The bodywork is unrestored, no welding done. The body is tight and intact and damage free. The floor and other vital parts show no signs of damage. The car has been completely repainted with 2-component paint. Professional painting, the paintwork is in excellent condition. Original color code “A1A1” has been retained.

The 6 clinder 3.3 liter boxer is equipped in the UK with intercooler, ignition, stainless steel exhaust and wastegate. Original parts are present. In the Netherlands the car has been adjusted by BEEK Auto Racing in The Hague. There is a roller bank printout on which the car demonstrably delivers 297 hp.
In UK the car is also equipped with a new chassis.

In 2017 the interior has been professionally renewed. Originally the car is also provided with leather according to the “birth announcement”. The seats are covered with black leather, there is new black carpet and is in very good condition. Also equipped with red seat belts and RS door panels.
The car is demonstrable from the factory equipped with heated seats, limited slip differential, electrically adjustable leather sport seats, green tinted windscreen with green tire and an electric sunroof.

In addition to, of course, the original maintenance booklet, the original sales brochures are also supplied with the car.
According to the present valuation report, the car represents a value of € 125,000. The report describes the 930 as a very fine, original and slightly modified specimen that is in a beautiful and excellent condition.
