In 1977, Auto Motor und Sport published an exclusive story about Porsche's future plans and prospects. The cover of this issue showed Porsche's vision of the future 911 appearance in the form of a 930 Turbo with a modified front, which, through the use of the company's own 928 headlights, achieved a significantly streamlined line and thus a much more modern appearance.
We do not know which company policy decisions led to this very successful study not being implemented, but it may have been due to the financial situation at the time.
It is therefore not surprising that a certain Rainer Buchmann, with his company bb, adopted this design language a little later and implemented his interpretation of the 928 headlights in the 911 as an elaborate redesign of the front in sheet metal.
Among the vehicles produced by bb, this vehicle occupies a unique special position.
The top model from Porsche was chosen as the basis, a brand new 1980s 911 Turbo. This was then specially manufactured by bb according to the customer wishes of a wealthy American enthusiast, and in this combination, including the use of the Porsche racing brake system, is a unique piece worldwide, even among the other bb creations, which was confirmed to us by a former bb employee who remembers this unique piece particularly well.
The technology used in the interior is relatively subtle for this time, meaning that the classic 911 interior has been largely preserved thanks to numerous but subtle modifications.
After the vehicle had been in the second owner's private collection for a very long time, its current owner, full of joy about this unique 911 turbo, decided, despite the very low mileage, to have this unique piece extensively but carefully restored, always taking its unique originality into account.
However, no compromises were made with the engine. As a new crankshaft along with original Mahle pistons and cylinders etc. were available, the engine was completely rebuilt.
Last month this bb turbo was presented to an appraiser to document its current condition.
The excellent condition was confirmed and a restoration value of €350,000 was determined, although this only takes into account the economic side of a possible reconstruction or new build, as there is actually only one of this historic vehicle in the world and the value cannot therefore be determined by appraisal due to a lack of comparability.
