Porsche 944 Turbo Cup
As a contribution to grassroots sport led Porsche with the 944 Turbo Cup for the first time a one-make cup, in which from 1986 about three dozen identical "944 Turbo" went to the start. The platform for this Porsche one-make cup was the new "ADAC Super Cup", in which experienced drivers and promising young riders competed against each other in the supporting program of the Group C races.
Like the production version, the 944 Turbo Cup was equipped with a regulated three-way catalytic converter and with a standard exhaust system. For racer driving with the 944 Cup Turbo, Porsche made only minor changes to the chassis. In contrast to the standard version, the Cup cars rolled forward on eight-inch-wide alloy wheels and rear on nine-inch wheels. For equality of opportunity, the Motronic control unit, the knock control sensor and the boost pressure control valve were sealed.
In 1987, the 944 Turbo Cup version received more power (250 hp) and, adapted to the power increase, with a tighter suspension and equipped with a brake anti-lock braking system. The most successful driver was the Swabian Roland Asch, who won the Porsche 944 Turbo Cup in 1987, 1988 and 1989.
