According to its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this particular 959 Komfort was delivered new with silverpaint over its super-lightweight body panels and a wine red leather interior with contrasting seat inserts in tri- tone silver and grey. The car was originally delivered to the United Kingdom in 1988.
In 2002 the 959 was imported to the USA under the show and display law. It was federalized, titled and passed emissions in Arizona with a stated 19,470 kilometers on the CarFax. This example has never been in an accident and has no damage.
With its current collector, this 959 has been stored in a climate-controlled facility and has seen minimal use following its major service. As such, it remains in remarkably well-preserved and original condition, with its odometer currently showing just under 22,000 kilometers (13,640 miles), which is commensurate with the lack of wear both inside and out. Despite wearing a bluetooth stereo receiver, the fact that it has an original interiorand no aftermarket upgrades or changes definitely contribute to its lasting value. The original Blaupunkt isincluded. This wonderful driver presents incredibly well throughout and certainly be a welcome addition to any Porsche Club of America event.
It is also important to note that due to the fact that this 959 is now over 25 years old, it is no longer restricted in terms of annual mileage under the Show and Display rule, making vehicles of its kind all the more valuable tocollectors. Additionally, this 959 retains its original books, tools, first aid kit, jack, air compressor, as well as its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
In 2013, the previous collector noticed that there was an oil leak from the engine. It was sent from New
York to a 959 expert, Tony Callas of Callas Rennsport in Torrance California. There it received an entire mechanical refresh totaling over $200,000. It was diagnosed that the engine needed a proper rebuild and thatthe dynamic suspension was faulty. The engine was completely rebuilt to factory tolerances with certified Porsche components many of which needed to be sourced from Germany. Seals, belts, hoses, gaskets, lines, a new flywheel and clutch have been fitted. The new genuine Porsche muffler alone was over $20,000. Then thedynamic suspension was properly sorted. To date, with nearly $300,000 in service work this 959 sets itself apart as a true is a turn key collectable.
A 959 is a rare sight in the United States, as they were never originally offered for sale here, and the availability of a properly imported and well-sorted example is all the more rare. Only 337 examples were built in total worldwide. It is obvious why the 959 is in such high demand by collectors, as in its heyday, the car was
light years ahead of its competitors in terms of technology, engineering, and performance. Publications and enthusiasts would argue that it set the stage for the technology-laden super cars of the 21st century, showcasing features that would become the industry standards in years to come. This particular example is surely one ofthe finest, as it is presented in spectacular original condition and is ready to hit the open road following itscomprehensive service.
With the Porsche market heating up tremendously and holding strong, astute collectors are closely watching themarque’s most iconic models, of which the 959 is clearly the most celebrated. More than merely break the mold,it shattered it, and in so doing, it has secured a place in the history books as one of the most sought-after cars in the world.
