The vehicle in detail

In 1989, Porsche launched the 964 911 Carrera 4, signalling the end of the G model era. Despite retaining classic 911 design cues, the 964 Carrera 4 incorporated 85% new components, including rounded front and rear sections and an automatically extending rear spoiler, significantly improving aerodynamics over its predecessor.

A notable innovation was the introduction of all-wheel drive to the 911 lineup. Controlled electronically, this system typically directed 69% of torque to the rear axle and 31% to the front, with variable distribution based on driving conditions. The car was equipped with a 3.6 litre engine producing 250 horsepower, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It achieved a top speed of 162 MPH and accelerated from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.7 seconds, approaching the performance of the previous 930 Turbo.

Inside, the 964 Carrera 4 featured a markedly improved interior with enhanced illumination, a shorter gear lever for precise gear shifts, and an upgraded heating system. The introduction of power-assisted steering further enhanced agility and responsiveness, making the 911 Carrera 4 a standout in both performance and driving experience during its era.
