Porsche went to great lengths to eliminate about 220 pounds in their Rennsport reduction. Thinner gauge glass was used, sound deadening was largely removed, lightweight bucket seats installed and lighter 3-piece Speedline wheels were fitted. Our favorite effort to loose unnecessary weight is the installation of a small prop rod to hold the hood up rather than the infamous hood struts. A very intuitive addition considering the struts on most normal 993s go bad every year causing owners to use a homemade prop rod anyway!
How many of you have had a porsche hood latch hit the back of your head while going through the frunk? Darn those hood struts! Another feature we love are the fabric door pulls which may be the ultimate display of weight saving efforts.
Not only was the 993 Carrera RS lightened, it was also more powerful with an uprated 3.8 making 300 hp. All told, 1,014 Were produced.
