Porsche 993 GT2

Porsche 993 GT2

Coupé, 1995

Highlights

  • Same owner for the last 23 years
  • Accident-free and fully matching
  • Extensive and documented maintenance

One of the few GT2 (172 examples produced) in Guards red with air-conditioning, with a fully documented history driven by the same owner since 23 years.

1 of 172 993 GT2s ever produced. While the mother of the GT2s needs no introduction, when we hear today about limited editions of 2,000 units (!), it’s amusing that this 911 wasn’t produced in a limited run. However, the total – even including the 21 EVOs produced in 1998 – doesn’t even reach 200 units!

The vehicle in detail

The first GT2 was presented at the 1995 Geneva Motor Show and was designed to obtain homologation in the FIA GT2 class: it was the most muscular, aggressive, and flashy of the 911s produced up until then.

Despite a period of serious financial difficulty for the Stuttgart-based manufacturer, this extremely simple and pure version was conceived, in line with Porsche’s DNA, which has always been linked to racing: from the enlarged bumpers with bolt-on composite appendages, to the rear wing needed to cool the twin-turbine engine, to the large, removable Speedline magnesium wheels, the bucket seats, the lightweight glass, and the absence of any superficial frills, such as central locking or electric windows.

Derived from the 993 Turbo engine, the GT2’s twin-turbo engine, with some refinements, delivers a full 430 horsepower, but not through all-wheel drive, but through the rear wheels alone, without any electronic control. The 430 horsepower needs to move less than 1,300 kg, making the GT2 the most powerful and fastest 993 overall: 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 298 km/h.

The example we offer you was delivered directly to the first owner, Hermann Strobel, in Zuffenhausen on July 7, 1995, in Indischrot with a black leather interior. With foresight, the car was delivered with air conditioning (573), an option that undoubtedly makes this GT2 more comfortable to drive in spring or summer. The other few options include a reinforced 88-amp battery (197), a Blaupunkt Dusseldorf RCR 84 radio (336) with a reduced sound system (451), a dark windshield band (567), and preparation for factory delivery (337).

After about two years and a half, two services at the Porsche Center in Ludwigsburg, and approximately 10,000 km on the clock, the car passed into the hands of an English collector who entrusted it to Bob Watson, an expert and renowned British Porsche tuner. During this time, the car was serviced every 10,000 to 15,000 km annually, before being sold to the current owner in 2002 with approximately 60,000 km on the clock. Bob Watson made several improvements, including a higher-performance exhaust (the original is retained and delivered with the car), an electrically controlled fire extinguisher system, and a roll bar (later removed), likely for trackday participation. Inside, a removable steering wheel has been fitted for easier access and a reading lamp has been installed since there is no light of any kind in the GT2 cockpit, to save weight!

This example arrived in Italy 23 years ago and has since traveled less than 10,000 km, receiving two routine maintenance services at Porsche and a more thorough overhaul at Graziano Teggi’s renowned Rennsport workshop in order to eliminate the chronic problem of these cars of smoke when starting after prolonged periods of inactivity.

The car is now in excellent condition, free from bumps and accidents, with a very healthy body and uniform paintwork; no works needed except for the tires, which need replacing due to age but not wear. All the necessary equipment is present, including the tool kit, compressor, and double keys. All the manuals are present: service, owner’s manual, and maintenance manual, along with the GT2 addendum and Touring Pass .

The vehicle is registered in Italy and with ASI certificate. It can be viewed by appointment. More details on www.gulfblue.it
