2012 Porsche 911 Targa 4S

This 2012 Porsche 911 Targa 4S is a late production example from the second generation of 997 dubbed .2. The 997.2 shares much of its driveline with the 991 that followed, but is highly sought after for being a smaller, more analog package than the later model (991).

This 911 Targa 4S was ordered new through Porsche of Kings Automall in Cincinnati by a longtime Porsche enthusiast who was looking for a summer road trip car. He went a little nuts with the ordering system and ended up spending $135,145 building this very special 911. He was the only owner and driver from delivery in 2011 until 2025 when he sold it with 96,000 miles on the odometer. He said Ohio winters can be long and although his Mercedes-Benz SUVs have always kept him safe, they aren’t much fun to drive when the pavement finally thaws out. So, in early 2011 he sat down at the Porsche dealer and painstakingly configured this car to be used in summer for driving back and forth between his home in Cincinnati and the home of his longtime girlfriend in Tennessee. He took delivery later that year and used the car as intended. He faithfully serviced the car and drove it back and forth to Tennessee as well as on other long road trips throughout his ownership that ended in May 2025 when he sold it to an employee of European Collectibles who also wanted a summer road trip car.

The vehicle in detail

In preparation for the next round of long-distance driving, exhaustive services and minor cosmetic refreshes were carried out in the summer of 2025. This started with the purchase of a set of Carrera Classic wheels, new TPMS monitors, new metal valve stems, and a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. To enhance the exterior presentation, all lights and badges were removed, the paint was polished, and prior to reassembly, new clear side marker lights and new GT3/Turbo clear taillights were purchased along with new Targa 4S rear badges.

For service work, European Collectibles’ own Preston Pedersen was more than up to the task. After a cursory inspection and running computer diagnostics, it was determined that the high-pressure fuel pump was weak, so it was replaced along with the following maintenance:

-Oil and Filter Change
-Coolant System Flush and Hose/Radiator Inspection
-Replace Air and Pollen Filters
-Inspect Brake Components – Pads and Carbon Ceramic Rotors were in good shape.
-Flush Brake Fluid
-Inspect Steering Rack, Axle Joints, and Drive Shafts – Drive shaft boots were leaking, so both axles were replaced and the Transfer Case fluid was changed.
-Replace Spart Plugs
-Replace Drive Belt
-Remove PDK Pan and Filter – Replaced with new pan and integrated filter, filled with new oil and calibrate Dual Clutch Transmission.
-Battery, Charging System, and both Keys passed inspection.
-Targa Roof and Mechanical Sunshade work as intended.
-Four Wheel Alignment

Once the work was completed, the Porsche was driven to Carmel and back for Pebble Beach Car Week (1,000 miles total). After the trip it went back on Preston’s rack and passed all visual inspections. Then it was off on a longer trip from Newport Beach, CA to Utah, where it met up with several other enthusiasts for Everyday Driver’s Beartooth Adventure through Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. At the completion of the event, it was a long drive home but better than putting it on a truck (3,000 roundtrip miles). Once back, all fluids were checked and found to be full and ready for the next adventure.

-Retail Cost for All Service-Related Parts and Labor above would exceed $10,000.
-Retail Cost for Tires, TPMS, Taillights, Side Marker Lights, and Badges would exceed $5,000.
