Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Folks, the story is out. There are no surprises as to why these RS models will always be coveted 911s. They consistently land in many Porsche enthusiasts’ top-five 911 driving experiences, and for good reason. It’s a true homologated road and track animal.

Anyone fortunate enough to drive and own an RS of any vintage is a believer in Porsche.  Throughout the decades beginning with 1973 the RS models have always been Porsche’s best, and purest performance models. They represented Porsche’s efforts to take back with winner’s platforms from Fords and BMWs when development money inside Porsche was very tight. When CEO Ernst Fuhrman explained to his engineers that at a race at Hockenheim he saw those other makes passing Porsches in the corners, he simply asked them what they were going to do about it. They engineered solutions and designed modest front and trend-setting rear spoilers and gave it to the market. They turned a comfortable touring car in to a purpose-built sports car.

The vehicle in detail

The Typ 997 RS is a lot of 911 for the money and, in our opinion, it is the last of the compact “usable” RS models. Please don’t misunderstand us: We love all the technology and engineering Porsche is stuffing in all these bigger Typ 991 RS versions. But when you climb into an RS planted on the 997 platform you simply – and quickly – feel Porsche’s intent. Which we think was a powerful, nimble, responsive, raw experience that looks very handsome and sounds very exciting.

Whether you’re on your local back roads or a track, these RS 911s are absolutely a blast. Take advantage of these comfy seats and go drive!  There is no need to get caught up in the hubbub you read on the Internet regarding ceramics or big red brakes, or buckets vs. adjustable sport seats, for that matter. The fact is this: being in any RS seat is a great place to be!

Four hundred fifteen horsepower; six speeds; 3,031 pounds; 60 in 4.0 seconds; 193 miles per hour top end.
