Porsche 911 Tour of Legends by World of Driving – German Alpine Road 2.0

Porsche 911 Tour of Legends by World of Driving – German Alpine Road 2.0

After more than 60 years of production, the Porsche 911 is undoubtedly the most famous sports car in the world. It is unmistakable. Timeless design and technology, appearance and driving dynamics are the cornerstones of this design icon. For many sports car fans, it is a dream to “drive a 911 for once”. At Daniel Hofmeier’s World of Driving, not only is this possible, but the Tour of Legends also gives you the opportunity to experience each of the eight generations for yourself as part of a guided sports car tour!

Which Porsche 911s are are available at World of Driving’s Tour of Legends?

The short answer is: all of them! That’s what makes World of Driving’s Tour of Legends such a unique offer. Because only there can you try out every single generation of the 911 and experience your personal favorite! The first seven generations, as 911 F and G models, 964, 993, 996, 997 and 991 come from the unique “Black Open A-IR Collection“. These cars are subject to strict criteria: key on the left, naturally aspirated boxer engine in the rear, manual gearbox, black paint and no interior color combination may occur twice. In addition, they are all built for dynamic driving.

More Information

The Black Open A-IR Collection is just the thing for Porsche enthusiasts!

And to enjoy the sound of the boxer engines and the freedom of driving even more intensely, everyone can open their roof. True to the motto Open AIR, only Porsche 911s with the nickname Cabrio, Targa or Speedster are granted access to the collection.

Porsche’s latest 911, the 992, does not yet meet these strict criteria. Should there be an open-top Porsche 992.2 with a naturally aspirated engine and manual gearbox, it will certainly find its way into the collection. Until then, the Tour of Legends will be supplemented with a 992.1 Cabriolet, which is not part of the Black Open A-IR Collection.

The air-cooled Porsche 911s of the Tour of Legends in detail

1971 Porsche 911 T F-model Targa 2.4

  • 2.4 liter MFI-engine with open intakes and 165 hp
  • 0 – 100 kph in 8.5 s
  • 1,050 kg

The “wild” Targa has been converted to S/T width and offers the most original 911 experience of the Tour of Legends. It is loud, raw, unfiltered and a hell of a lot of fun even at low speeds!

1975 Porsche 911 S G-model Targa 2.7

  • 2.7 liter engine with 165 PS
  • 0 – 100 kph in 7.8 s
  • 1,120 kg

This early, narrow 911 G-model impresses with its beautiful, graceful lines. The “chrome model”, as it is known, offers great contrasts, and not just in the trim. its copper-red interior makes it a real eye-catcher!

1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Cabrio

  • 3.6 liter engine with Carrera Cup-exhaust and 250 hp
  • 0 – 100 kph in 5.7 s
  • 1,350 kg

As the last representative of the original form of the Porsche 911, the 964 is now a favorite of the masses. This black 911 not only has the wheels in common with the 964 Carrera Cup car, but also its exhaust system and Recaro Pole Position sports seats in the light gray interior. An addictive source of joy!

1995 Porsche 993 Carrera 2 Cabrio

  • 3.6 liter engine with 272 hp
  • 0 – 100 kph in 5.6 s
  • 1,400 kg

Probably THE most pleasing cruiser of the Black Open A-IR Collection. As the last air-cooled 911, the 993 is a driving legend anyway and has long since become a myth. It is the power cruiser of the fleet and surprisingly civilized despite its age. Black on the outside, light beige on the inside, it looks almost innocently beautiful.

The water-cooled Porsche 911s of the Tour of Legends in detail

2004 Porsche 996 Carrera 4S Cabrio

  • 3.6 liter engine with factory power upgrade and 345 hp
  • 0 – 100 kph in 5.0 s
  • 1,430 kg

This convertible from the first water-cooled 911 generation was once a Porsche color test car. Its Maserati blue interior enchants in breathtaking condition. It is highly modern to drive and feels like a time capsule thanks to its excellent condition.

2006 Porsche 997 Carrera 4S Cabrio

  • 3.8 liter engine with factory power upgrade and 381 hp
  • 0 – 100 kph in 4.8 s
  • 1,555 kg

With the 997 generation, Porsche reversed the change away from round headlights. It is visually traditional and impresses with its ultra-modern KW V3 suspension, sports exhaust system and superb equipment. This 997 combines sportiness, brilliant sound and comfort.

2019 Porsche 991 Speedster

  • 4.0 liter engine with 510 hp
  • 0 – 100 kph in 3.9 s
  • 1,465 kg

To mark the brand’s 70th anniversary, Porsche launched the 991 Speedster, an open-top 911 GT3 with manual transmission. For convertible fans, this car is the pinnacle of the open-top 911 concept. Just before 9,000 rpm, goose bumps are guaranteed in the open-top Speedster!

There is still no open Porsche 992 with a naturally aspirated engine and manual gearbox. Should Porsche release such a model, it will of course also become an integral part of the Black Open A-IR Collection. But if required, Daniel will happily organize a suitable Porsche 992 Carrera convertible for you. However, you will then have to make do with a turbo engine.

Tour of Legends – German Alpine Road 2.0

It is probably a household name for anyone who enjoys sporty driving: The German Alpine Road. It is one of the most famous vacation routes in Germany. The west-east route stretches for around 500 kilometers in the south of Bavaria along the border with Austria and leads from Lake Constance to Lake Königsee.

In World of Driving’s Tour of Legends “German Alpine Road 2.0“, Daniel Hofmeier goes one step further, though. The route has been specially extended and optimized for sports cars such as the Porsche 911. It not only offers a lot for the eye, but also a lot to enjoy as a spirited driver.

Enjoy Lake Constance, Riedberg Pass, Neuschwanstein Castle on Forggensee, Plansee, Hohenpeißenberg, Kesselberg, Tegernsee, Sudelfeld, Roßfeldpanoramastraße and much more!

You leave the official German Alpine road at key points to integrate special highlights for sports car drivers into the tour. Daniel Hofmeier has created this unique route based on years of experience in the area and a lot of detailed research. Here you will experience the classic sights of the German Alpine Road with additional highlights. In the mountain region alone, the route covers almost 800 kilometers on mostly winding country roads. This guarantees more and longer driving fun.

All participants also receive the World of Driving welcome pack with road book. This is the first time you will be asked the question that will be asked frequently over the next few days: “Which Porsche 911 am I driving now?” As soon as all the vehicles are occupied and you have been able to familiarize yourself with your vehicle, the entourage sets off for Lindau.

The destination of the first stage is the beautifully situated five-star hotel Bayerischer Hof. Here you will find a combination of vacation & culinary delights, wellness, spa and plenty of nature. Check in at your leisure and relax in the spa area or explore the area around Lindau and Lake Constance.

We meet for dinner at a nearby top restaurant that has focused specifically on the needs of car enthusiasts. The evening is rounded off by getting to know each other over a welcome drink and plenty of conversation.

World of Driving Tour of Legends – Travel day 1, Monday, 29.09.2025 | 252 km – 6,726 m elevation

Your day starts with a hearty breakfast before the day’s tour heads east. Of course, not without the now familiar agony of choice as to which Porsche 911 you want to try out next. Today you explore the Allgäu region, including a little extra detour through the winding mountain landscape.

Here you can really get “your” sweetheart up to temperature! There are numerous stages that are perfect for sporty driving. Before lunch, the group makes an extensive detour to Austria. The real highlights of the route await you there. Here you can really test the driving dynamics of all 911s. In the afternoon, you will cross the Riedberg Pass, which is usually not very busy, a great stretch of road away from the classic Alpine road, before driving around the Forggensee lake, among other places. The first “real” driving day of the Tour of Legends comes to an end after almost 7,000 meters of elevation.

The Hotel Rübezahl welcomes you to Schwangau

Your accommodation for the second night is the four-star Hotel Rübezahl in Schwangau, not far from the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle. Travel day 2, Tuesday, 30.09.2025 | 269 km – 6,421 m elevation

Today you will first head south along the beautiful shores of Lake Plansee in Austria. The road along the second largest natural lake in Tyrol is one of the most beautiful in the Alps. Your route then leads through the beautiful Ammerwald forest, beautifully framed by the Geierköpfe and the Hochplatte. The following valleys with their impressive natural landscapes offer many straights. Here you can push down hard on the right pedal!

The next destination is Hohenpeißenberg – a popular hotspot for car fans. From the large parking lot at the summit, you have a great view. The drive up the mountain is also challenging with its tight bends. It’s no wonder that large car meetings regularly take place here.

The Tour of Legends leads over the Kesselberg and the Sylvesteinspeicher towards Tegernsee

The foothills of the Alps with their varied routes, for example along the Staffelsee, still offer plenty to discover in the afternoon. Shortly afterwards, the Kesselberg is one of the most winding road sections of the entire tour. Here, at over 800 meters, you can really make the most of the lateral dynamics of all the 911s!

Shortly afterwards, the western shore of Lake Walchensee awaits you, followed by Vorderriß along the banks of the Isar with its rugged rock formations and crystal-clear water. Another scenic highlight is certainly the Sylvenstein reservoir, before continuing towards Tegernsee, Schliersee and Spitzingsee. The 4-star Alpenhotel Arabella awaits you here in a prime location. Surrounded by this unique panorama and with plenty to talk about from the different impressions of the day, you can enjoy the evening to the full.

Travel day 3, Wednesday, 01.10.2025 | 273 km – 7,182 m elevation

You say goodbye to Spitzingsee and start the last day of driving. We start at the Sudelfeld, a paradise of bends, before heading to the notorious Tatzelwurm. With its landscape formed 15,000 years ago by the Ice Age, the beautiful and winding Chiemgau conveys the impression that the forces of nature already had sports car tours in mind back then. An absolute dream for all driving enthusiasts!

After this picturesque section of the German Alpine Road, you tackle the Roßfeld panoramic road in Berchtesgadener Land. Its extraordinary bends offer another opportunity to compare the history and modernity of the 911 model series. There is no shortage of driving pleasure or enjoyment on this road.

The last dream accommodation – Alpine Hideaway & Spa Klosterhof

In the late afternoon, we reach our last dream accommodation, the Alpine Hideaway & Spa Klosterhof – a beautiful resort in Bayrisch Gmünd. Set against a fantastic mountain backdrop, the wellness area invites you to linger and relax. We spend our last evening together over a fantastic dinner in the hotel’s own restaurant. On this last evening of the tour, you can discuss what you’ve experienced in a large group… or make plans for the next World of Driving Tour!

Journey home on Thursday, 02.10.2025 | 215 km – 2,238 m elevation + return journey

After almost 1,000 kilometers and over 22,000 meters of elevation in all Porsche 911 generations, you enjoy a last breakfast together as a group that has grown together in the meantime. The impressions of the last few days are shared one last time. Impressive landscapes, the most beautiful lakes in the Alpine region, countless bends, luxury, relaxation, enjoyment in our hotels and all this in a group of car enthusiasts. Is there anything better?

We check out together and take a leisurely drive back to the Oldtimer Resort Dasing for the final “car swap” back into your own car. Take this opportunity to collect memories and capture photos of these unforgettable days.

In terms of insurance, the 911s are designed for drivers aged between 23 and 74. The excess is €5,000. A deposit of €1,000 must be paid in advance of the trip. Furthermore, drivers must hold a valid class B driving license for at least four years (all EU driving licenses and equivalent driving licenses, such as US driving licenses, are accepted) and we apply a strict 0.0 per mille limit while driving.

It should also be noted that, depending on the year of manufacture, the 911s provided are not up to the technical standard of new cars, but are subject to the status of the year of manufacture at the time. This has corresponding consequences for the treatment and manner in which the vehicles are used.
