Porsche 911 f-model for sale by International Collectables Ltd.

The first generation of the Porsche 911 (original model or F-model) could be bought from 1964. Available as Coupé, Cabriolet and Targa, the Porsche 911 was a 2+2-seater sports car. The 911 was offered with the following engines: 2.0 – 2.4 liter petrol engine (110-190 hp). The last Porsche 911 from the original model (F-model) ran in 1973 from the band. Compared to the Porsche 356 model, the 911 was a great development. This applies to the entire vehicle design and in particular to the engine. Before the start of 911 series production in September 1964, 13 prototypes were still being built as a Porsche 901.

The history of the Porsche 911 F-Model

In September 1963, the Porsche 911 F-model was presented for the first time at the Frankfurt “IAA” trade fair. Today, the F-Model is regarded as the epitome of sports car construction in Germany, but at that time the successor to the Porsche 356 was not very coveted among Porsche fans. If it were up to the press and racing fans, the “new one” would be too big, too comfortable and too heavy. Porsche was also unable to keep the name of the first F-model (901) for long, as the car manufacturer “Peugeot” secured the rights to all three-digit model designations with a zero in the middle even before Porsche’s first “901” rolled off the production line. This meant that Porsche had to change the model designation of the first F-model from “901” to the designation “911” which is so familiar today. Looking back: Luck for Porsche!

The different models & specifications

In 1964 the first F-model was delivered. The wheelbase compared to the later years of construction was much shorter at that time, but the F-model still impressed with its clear and flowing lines in design. The F-Model also convinced racing fans technically. Although the six-cylinder boxer engine, which initially had 130 bhp, was more expensive to produce than that of the competition. But compared to the competitors, the F-model was convincing on the race track in all areas. With the 1972 model year, Porsche launched the F-model with the special feature of an oil filler flap. However, this special feature disappeared a year later, making the so-called “oil filler flap models” a rarity!

A special series of the Porsche 911 F-model appeared in 1973. With the Porsche 911 Carrera RS, Porsche brought out a model that was mainly intended for motor sports. This model had a power of 210 bhp and a total weight of 1110 kg. A distinctive feature of the 911 Carrera RS was the so-called „Ducktail“ which provided better road grip.

The Porsche 911 F-model was replaced by the G-model in 1974.
