New Porsche 911 (992.2) will launch on May 28th, 5 pm CEST!

On May 28 at 3 pm Central European Summer Time, we will experience a turning point. That’s when Porsche presents the facelift of the 911 – with hybrid drive for the first time. Find out here what Porsche is already revealing and where you can watch the Porsche 992.2 launch!

The focus of Porsche 911 Hybrid development was on performance

A hybrid drive, i.e. the combination of a combustion engine with an electric motor, is usually used to reduce emissions and fuel consumption. At Porsche, however, the additional electric drive in the 911 is intended to achieve other goals. Porsche officially claims that the 992 facelift – or 992.2 – power unit is a “Performance Hybrid”.

In the Porsche 992.2’s launch announcement, the Stuttgart-based company emphasizes that the new hybrid-911 laps the Nordschleife a whopping 8.7 seconds faster than its predecessor, the 992 Carrera S. Long-time Porsche works driver Jörg Bergmeister lapped the “Green Hell” in 7:16.943 minutes. To put this in perspective: A Porsche Carrera GT still needed 7:32 minutes in 2004 and was the fastest production car ever on the Eifel circuit at the time.

In addition to the new hybrid drive – Porsche has not yet provided any details on the exact system performance and weight – the record-breaking 992,2 car only had the optional aero kit. Otherwise, the vehicle remained standard. Even the tires came from the standard model.

The test drivers put the facelift Porsche 992 with hybrid drive through its paces for over five million kilometers

Series Manager Frank Moster emphasizes: “We left nothing to chance during development and tested the new 911 [992.2] under all sorts of conditions all over the world. From the freezing cold to scorching heat, as was the case during the final stages of testing in Dubai. Whether at a high drivetrain load in the demanding conditions of mountain passes or in the stop-and-go traffic of an urban environment, the new 911 has mastered even the most difficult challenges with aplomb. All in all, our engineers and test drivers clocked up more than five million kilometres of development driving.”

Jörg Bergmeister is also positive about the result. “The new 911 has become considerably faster on the track. We have more grip, significantly more power, and the spontaneous response of the performance hybrid is a great advantage”, says the racing driver.

The presentation of the Porsche 992.2 with hybrid drive will be broadcast live

The world premiere of the new Porsche 992.2, including the 911 Hybrid, will be broadcast on 28 May at 15:00 CEST in the Porsche Newsroom at newsroom.porsche.com, and on the Porsche channels on YouTube and LinkedIn

Porsche 992.2 is the first 911 Hybrid – securing the future of the 911, but power output yet uncertain

The Porsche 992.2 will not be the first Porsche 911 with hybrid drive. The Porsche 997 GT3 R Hybrid racing version already had electric support. Without an engine failure shortly before the end of the race, the Zuffenhausen-based team would probably have taken overall victory in the 2010 Nürburgring 24 Hours with the hybrid.

At the time, the hybrid racer had an extra 164 hp. It is not known how much the electric drive will deliver in the new Porsche 992.2. Porsche has also not yet announced whether there will be a purely electric driving mode. What is certain, however, is that the hybridization of the model series is a necessary step in order to continue offering the 911.
