Quite an accomplishment when Ferry Porsche -son of founder Ferdinand Porsche- designed the sporty 356 model in 1948. Based on the Volkswagen Beetle, designed by his father as a popular people’s car. In a time when many other car manufacturers used larger engines to deliver performance, Ferry Porsche focused on the aerodynamics, balance and lightweight to achieve the same goals.

During its build years (1948-1965), technological innovations continued, which contributed to its motorsport success and popularity. There were several body styles and engine versions available for the 356. The power output of the 4-cylinder air-cooled boxer engine was improved significantly. The displacement was increased from 1300 to 1600 cc and power was doubled to 60 hp, 75 hp for the Super version and even 95 hp for the last ‘SC’ series.

This Porsche 356A T2 Coupé 1600 Super was produced on 17 July 1958 and delivered directly to Porsche dealer Hofman in New York. Finished in Ivory White with a Red faux leather interior and equipped with the more powerful 1600 Super engine. A total of about 20% of all the 356A coupes came from the factory in 1600 ‘Super’ configuration, making this a rare and sought after car.

This 356 is all still matching numbers, colors, rims and sheet metal (bonnet, boot lid, doors, fuel tank,…) and has been completely restored to a very high standard and with the utmost respect for its authenticity. The restoration was carried out over a period of 2 years to approach absolute perfection!

In addition to the invoices present, a large number of pictures have been taken throughout the restoration project to illustrate the progress and detail of the repair. Every part has been fully restored to its original specifications, both inside and out.

This very well sorted 356A T2 coupe drives smoothly, feels very consistent and has all the performance required. Therefore, we are very excited to offer this 356, which is amongst the best examples on the market, if not the best.
