Once collectors cottoned onto the fact that a 1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI was effectively an RS with G-bumpers, values have risen accordingly, pulled along by strong sales of that most special of 911’s it is so closely related too. The recent RM Sotheby’s auction at Monterey Car Week featured a white, Japanese sold 1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI, and when the hammer finally fell at a price of 434, 000 USD a new marker was set for the top end of the market.
Although not an original paint car, this is one that was restored to the highest level by renowned Porsche specialist Roock in Germany. Michael Roock himself confirmed on email that the car was restored by his skilled team around 10 years ago. Upon completion of the restoration Roock commissioned specialists Classic Data to carry out an appraisal of the vehicle in 2018.
This report, which is included in the sale, concluded the car was a ‘Condition 1’ vehicle, their highest rating given to cars deemed to be in « Immaculate condition. No defects, damage or signs of wear on the technology or optics. Completely and perfectly restored top vehicle. Like new (or better) » (translated from German). Two of our own experience Porsche technicians have been over the car themselves, and with their combined 65 years experience reached the same conclusion – this is indeed a first class restoration.
Originally German sold (we are in the process of researching ownership history), the car was acquired after the restoration by an avid Swedish Porsche collector and early Singer owner, a true enthusiast who has owned and driven aircooled Porsche for many years. He has enjoyed the car regularly in the time he has owned it, clocking 2500km and ensuring regular and appropriate maintenance.
This car would make a wonderful asset in any collection. However given it is sold in a ready to drive state with a few kilometres under its belt it could also be driven and enjoyed should the new owner desire to do so.
