The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 is a “G series” which occupies a special place in the history of the entire Porsche 911 range. Indeed, it combines the genes of two legends of the brand: on the one hand the 911 Carrera 2.7 RS , introduced at the end of 1972 and on the other hand the 2993cc aluminum engine block the Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0, also known as the Porsche 930! Produced only in the 1976 and 1977 vintages with less than 3,700 Ex only, this is a relatively rare 911 … and only distributed in Europe!
The Carrera 3.0 became the « Base » for all 911s developed until 1989, including the 911 SC and 3.2 Carrera. Repeating the facts and looking at the recent past lead us to believe that the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 is an extremely interesting vehicle from a collection point of view.
Built before the 911 SC, it has all of an « SC » and more. This is another ride with more power (200hp) and it is 10% lighter.
The Carrera 3.0 was marketed in the 1976 and 1977 vintages. It was built “in a sandwich” between the standard 911 2.7 models and the top-of-the-range 930 Turbo. During this very short two-year production period, only 3,687 Carrera 3.0s were built, an almost miniscule number compared to the 58,000 Porsche 911SC and 76,500 Carrera 3.2 built. Of these 3,687 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0s, 2,564 were delivered as coupes and only 1,123 as Targa. In 1976, 1,093 coupes were built. In terms of rarity, the Carrera 3.0 is not far from the figures of the 2.7 RS (1,580 parts) or the original 911 3.0 Turbo (2,819 parts).
