A real icon within the 911 family, the Porsche 2.2 911S, have you recognized it yet? In 1971 the 911S appeared on the silver screen. Steve McQueen drove a 911S, from 1969, in the color schiefergrau for several minutes in the opening scene of the movie ‘Le mans’.

In 1969 the improved version of the 911 C-Series came on the market with the name: 911S. A lot of improvements were made, so that the 911S also got more power in addition to an improved ride quality. No less than 30 full horsepower were added and this resulted in a power of 179HP! This 911S started its life in a red jacket, but was completely overhauled in 2019 by Edwin Lammertink, Specialized Porsche in Enter. In addition, it got its new color schiefergrau as in the film ‘Le Mans’ 1971.

The Porsche 2.2 911S was not in production for long, from 1969 to 1971 only 1420 coupés were built!

Performance and improvements for the Porsche 2.2 911S

A number of changes were made for the development of the 911S, including an improved clutch, transmission, electronic drive and larger brakes.

In addition to technical improvements, the car was also made lighter, the hood and rear apron were replaced by an aluminum variant. This resulted in a weight of only 1020kg. And more importantly less upset!

From 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5s with a top speed of 230 km/h and a maximum speed of 7300 rpm. And to think that this Porsche was developed in 1969, unprecedented for its time. With all its modifications, the 911S became the most powerful of its series. Only 1420 units of the 2.2 911S Coupé were built, how many are left is unknown.
