1973 Porsche 911 S Targa

For the first-generation Porsche 911, examples produced for the 1973 model year are the most sought after, as they combine the more powerful engine, which had arrived in 1972, and predate the cumbersome-looking federalized impact bumpers of 1974. For the 911 S, horsepower was rated at 190 bhp, and these cars utilized the stronger 915-type transmission. That year, both coupe and Targa versions were available, the latter with its distinctive stainless steel-clad roll bar and removable roof panel.

Sold new in the U.K. as a LHD U.S.-specification example on July 1, 1973, this Porsche 911 S Targa was sporting Aubergine paintwork over a Beige leather interior, just as it appears today. Furthermore, it was very well optioned with Koni front and rear shock absorbers, front sport seats, and air conditioning.

Remaining with its first owner for only one year, this 911 S Targa was acquired by its second owner in 1974, and amazingly remained with him for the next thirty-two years. At that time, the car was acquired by its third owner in the Netherlands. Professionally repainted in its original Aubergine roughly ten years ago, the cars presents in very nice condition throughout, having clearly been well looked after throughout its life. Showing just under 62,000 miles from new.

A 1973 911 S Targa is an excellent automobile in every regard, one that combines both performance, practicality, and the thrill of open-air motoring. Truly a fascinating example of its breed, this well optioned Targa is ready to be enjoyed by only its fourth custodian over the past forty-seven years.
