According to his Cardex, our Short Wheel Base 911, in beautiful Bahama Gelb, was delivered by the Factory on February 29, 1968 to Raffay & Co Hamburg (Germany). Later that year, the car was put into service by its first German owner. During its more than 60 years of existence, the car has already been restored, which applies to most 911s of these years as they were susceptible to rust because the bodies were only galvanized in the 1970s and thus were more resistant to corrosion. The restoration that this car underwent was done in a high-quality manner. For the first seventeen years of its life, Porsche built just one road car, and that was the 356. You could choose different body styles, colors and a few engines, but the 356 was it. By the early 1960s, the car was becoming rather antiquated and the pushrod four was at the end of its development life. The complicated blind alley that was the 356 Carrera 2 four-cam two liter four cylinder was no answer for mass-production.

Under the internal type number 901, Porsche developed a completely new GT car that was evolutionary of the 356 but with better visibility, more shoulder room and a 2.0 liter flat six-cylinder motor with about 40 more horsepower than a 356 Super. Early 911s had much of the vintage charm of a 356, including chrome trim inside and out.

It wasn’t until five years after the 911’s introduction in 1964 that the 911’s wheelbase was extended by 57mm. That is why the first series of 911s is also known as Short Wheel Base or SWB. In addition to the short wheelbase, the bodies were built by Karmann, which stands for German craftsmanship.
