This Turbo Carrera was sold new on July 23, 1976, by R.S. Taylor Porsche Audi of Vallejo, CA and shortly thereafter was moved to Phoenix, AZ where it remained until 2009 when it was sold to the most recent owner, a resident of Louisiana. In 2020, he began a light restoration that include a full repaint in the original color, light yellow, refinished the wheels and installed new tires. The interior is original and in very good condition for being so and still retains its original midnight blue carpets, a detail rarely seen today due to the material not being available.
Later that year, a mechanical restoration was carried out that included a full rebuild and upgrade of the engine that resulted in not only more power but they also managed to eliminate 90% of the Turbo lag that makes these early 930s less fun than they should be. The engine was sent to TurboKraft of Mesa, AZ where they fitted the original block with 3.2L “big bore” pistons with 7.5:1 compression ratio, SC style cams, headers and a K27 turbo charger. Further enhancements included “TurboKraft EFI injector Block Package with Fuel Rails,” which consists of Billet aluminum EFI injector blocks, cylinder head insulator block and all gaskets, machined aluminum fuel rails with 6 ORB ports, Billet aluminum fuel rail mounts. Other highlights of this exotic build include a custom-built EFI Wiring Harness and Motec M130 Stand-Alone Programmable Engine Management System. This build was fully documented with photos and receipts.
On the road, this 930 has a vintage look and noise with much more modern performance thanks to the engine upgrades. It also features working air-conditioning and the original Blaupunkt radio. This is truly a special early “Turbo Carrera.”
