This 930 Turbo’s Significance: Upon introduction in the early 70s, It was Germany’s fastest high-production car. The infamous « Widowmaker » term was first appointed to the 930, due to its setup; rear-engine, rear-drive, a wheelbase that isn’t the longest, combined with little to no safety nannies and turbo lag made for a challenging drive when the car’s dynamics wasn’t given complete attention by its driver. Not only was it the first 911 to feature the brand’s signature wide rear fenders and « Whale Tail » spoiler, but it was also the marque’s first time adding forced-induction to a production-based vehicle. The 930 is the last 911 Turbo that bears the original classic styling that the preliminary 911 have and truly a vastly important model not only in the marque’s storied and rich history but also to the automotive world as well. It’s the poster child Porsche.
Performance: Powering the 930 is a rear-mounted and single-turbocharged (Triple K K26 Turbo), 3.3L flat-six air-cooled engine — that when new, delivered a potent 282-hp and 278 ft-lbs of torque. Operation is handled by the G50 manual transmission and the power is sent to the rear wheels.
