For 1967, Porsche introduced an open-topped variant of its 911/912. Named for the company’s victories in the famous Sicilian road race, the Targa incorporated a stainless steel roll bar, removable roof panel, and foldaway plastic rear window for an open-air experience. Most buyers opted for the quieter, conventional glass rear window offered as an option from late 1967 onwards, making the soft-window version one of the rarest models of that period.

This US-specification 1968 Porsche 912 Targa is finished in Irish Green over a black leatherette interior and features the optional five-speed manual gearbox and more uncommon Soft-Window Targa top with rear shelf and compartments instead of the +2 seating arrangement. One of 1,217 examples believed built for 1968, this car features factory improvements for the model year including a dual circuit master cylinder for more reliable braking, wider wheels and tires, and a number of detail changes. This car was restored under previous ownership over a number of years including a repaint in its original color, reupholstered interior, resealing of the Targa top, and an overhaul of its 1.6-liter air-cooled four-cylinder engine. Supplied with a thick file of documentation, this 912 was purchased in August 2015 by Rudy Mancinas for his wife’s enjoyment.
