In 1989, Porsche introduced the first major change to the 911 with the launch of the 964, still looking like a 911 it was claimed by Porsche to feature 87% all new components over the outgoing 3.2 Carrera. The 911 was traditionally a 2wd car but this new 964 initially featured a new 4wd driveline and a powerful 3.6 twin plug engine, with a 2wd variant following shortly afterwards.

New coil sprung suspension, ABS and power steering offered a significantly modern driving experience over the outgoing Carrera whilst performance was brisk too with 0-60mph coming up in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 162mph, figures that are still respectable today.

Fast forward 30 years and the 964 looks like a classic 911, being the last to feature the upright headlamps, but with its modern underpinnings, it offers a refined driving experience.

We are pleased to have back for sale this Carrera 2 manual Targa, manufactured in 1990 to UK C16 specification and originally supplied by Swinford Motors the official Porsche Centre for the West Midlands with desirable 17” cup alloys, factory air conditioning, electric sports seats, windows and mirrors and finished in Guards Red with linen interior. It is supplied with a continuous Porsche/ Porsche specialist service history, with just five owners in total from new.

On The Road

On the road this Carrera 2 manual will not disappoint, behaving as you would hope for a correctly maintained example and benefits from still having an excellent fitting roof which is watertight and quiet, the roof lining was re-trimmed when previously sold by us and the interior was retrimmed in black leather in 2014 and still presents as new today. The Porsche Classic Radio was also fitted by us at point of last sale.
