Produced in only 936 examples, of which only 469 were destined for the US, the 964-generation 911 Speedster is far more rare than its G-Series predecessor offered in 1989. Just as with that car, the 1993/4 911 Speedster was produced with a lowered windshield and a hard cover over a lightweight manual soft top, creating a distinctive profile that evoked that of the original 356 Speedster. With the same engine, transmission, and suspension as a standard 911 Carrera but with a somewhat lighter weight thanks to the removal of the rear seats and RS door cards, the Speedster was more driver-oriented without becoming too hardcore for real street use.

For the most dedicated performance enthusiasts, additional weight reduction was possible with a Clubsport package, though most cars were delivered in standard specification. Naturally, Speedsters were extremely desirable when new and have remained so since, continuing a tradition of collectability common among all generations of Speedsters due to their unique styling and thrilling driving experience.
