Introduced in 1992, the 964 Carrera RS was a track-focused, weight-saving homologation special, succeeding the 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7. Weighing just 2,706 pounds, it featured a stripped body shell, aluminum trunk lid, magnesium wheels, and a 260 hp 3.6-liter flat-six engine. Enhanced with stiffer mounts, revised ignition, and improved brakes, it also sported a lowered, firmer suspension for enhanced handling. One of 1,910 “Lightweight” RS models built from 1991 to 1992, this 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera RS is finished in Jet Black Metallic over a black interior and black leather Recaro bucket seats with gray inserts. Delivered new in Germany, this RS was later exported to the UK in December 1997, where it is believed to have passed through a small number of additional stewards. More recently, under previous ownership, the RS received extensive attention by air-cooled engine specialist Greg Cranmer of Heritage AutoWerks. Work performed included a glass-out, bare-metal repaint in its original hue, removal of all aftermarket alarm systems, installation of standard door cards, a major service of the engine and transaxle, and refinishing the original magnesium wheels.
