Unveiled in 2015, the GT4 variant of the Porsche Cayman type 981 marks a major turning point in the mid-engine coupe line. Although the model follows in the footsteps of the Cayman R 987, this is the first time that Porsche has equipped its Cayman with an engine derived directly from the 911, in this case the Carrera S 991: a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six developing 385 horsepower, exclusively paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Designed by the Motorsport department in Weissach, the GT4 features suspension, steering, and braking components taken directly from the 911 GT3, offering exceptionally precise handling. Its aerodynamics are designed to generate real downforce, thanks in particular to its fixed rear spoiler and specific front bumper. Inside, the atmosphere is also similar to that of its big sister, the GT3, and the optional Clubsport package reinforces the model’s radical character with a range of specific equipment, while remaining suitable for everyday use. Although the GT4 offers a pure driving experience with its manual transmission and naturally aspirated engine, it benefits from perfect balance, reduced size and weight, and is therefore as comfortable on the road as it is on the track.
