the 991.1 gts brings back the feeling of the last 993s, especially the well-loved 1997 and 1998 models, capturing that same sense of purity and end-of-an-era magic. just as the 993 carrera s was introduced near the end of the production run of the 993, the 991.1 gts arrived during the final stretch of the 991.1 generation, with model years 2015 and 2016. when the 1997 carrera s debuted, it stood out for offering sought-after features as standard; it combined a naturally aspirated engine with a widebody design, which made it highly desirable. the 991.1 gts followed a similar formula, pairing a widebody layout with enhanced performance equipment right out of the box. after the air-cooled era ended with the 993, the 996 ushered in the age of water-cooled 911s. from 1999 through 2016, most 911 models remained naturally aspirated, aside from the turbo and gt2 variants. but with the arrival of the 991.2 and now the 992 generation, only the gt3 and gt3 rs continue to carry the naturally aspirated torch.
