In the early 90s, Porsche began their Carrera Cup program in North America with the 964 generation of 911, as a customer operated series for enthusiasts who wished to push their stripped down street cars to the limit. Now, more than thirty years later, the Carrera Cup spans over eleven countries and has become one of the ultimate proving grounds for both amateur and professional drivers alike and in 2021, to match the long-standing European relationship, became the official support series for Formula 1 in the U.S.
This is no standard GT3—it is NOT street legal. There are very few panels on the car that are not carbon fiber or lightweight polycarbonate and the cushy 992 interior has been gutted in favor or a complete roll cage and fire-suppression system. That’s right, this is a proper race car. Prepared for the three tiers of the Carrera Cup—Supercup, Carrera Cup and GT3 Cup Challenge/Trophy—the 992 GT3 Cup Car is absolutely one of the most visceral, publicly available racing cars available today.
