Porsche 993 Carrera 4S 

The first all-wheel-drive Porsches appeared in 1989 with the 964 generation. However, these cars were often criticized for their lack of sportsmanship. In 1994, Porsche markets the 993 generation, and the 4-wheel drive version is presented at the Paris Motor Show. The 993 Carrera 4 offers the same technical and aesthetic characteristics as the normal Carrera, and introduces a completely new all-wheel drive, which is 50% lighter than the 964 generation.

At the end of 1995, Porsche offers the Carrera 4S catalog, which with its well-studied Turbo Look makes the car even sexier than a normal 993, thanks in particular to its wider and more curved rear fenders.

The 4S has indeed a lot of the look of the Turbo, with a front spoiler and more sporty sills. The ride height is lowered compared to a normal 993 (-10 in the front and -20 in the back), all with the 18 « rims of the Turbo.The 4S takes over the frame of the Turbo as well as the big brakes with the red calipers with 4 pistons in 322 and 299 mm.

The 4S is also better equipped than a standard 993, since it is among other things equipped as standard with Full Leather (full leather at Porsche includes the dashboard).

In mechanical terms, no improvement is made. The engine remains 3.6 Varioram developing 285 hp (except optional X51 version) on the 4S. The 272 hp was never offered on the 4S.

Heavier by about 30 kilos than a standard 993, the 4S is a little less powerful and a little bit more clumsy. The difference, however, remains minimal, unless you push the car in its entrenchments. However, it remains to our eyes one of the most beautiful 993 produced.
