Het voertuig in detail

The paintwork presents very well with original brightwork. The upholstery is in excellent condition with charcoal German square-weave carpets, black upholstery, a VDM steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, and a period correct radio. The 4.5” x 15” chrome wheels are mounted to Vredestein Sprint Classic 165 15 tires (date coded 2025). The undercarriage is solid and rust-free, and European Collectibles has recently stripped the floors to steel, undercoated in Wurth German undershoot to factory specification. The suspension components have also been stripped to steel and repainted.

According to the documentation, this 356 SC was delivered new through Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville, Florida, and first sold to a Mr. Patrick of Charleston, South Carolina. By 1970, the 356 SC was sold to the second owner, Mr. Christopher. In 1971, he commissioned a complete engine rebuild from Scott Garage. The Porsche was later acquired by Mr. Ulmer in 1975, who became the custodian for over two decades. During his ownership, the 356 SC was driven and maintained regularly, including a comprehensive transmission rebuild performed by well-known Porsche specialist Vic Skirmants on December 21, 1993.

After changing hands in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the 356 eventually came into the possession of its fifth documented owner, who undertook a comprehensive restoration, encompassing both cosmetic and mechanical aspects. This involved a complete disassembly and reassembly, focusing on preserving the originality. The 356SC was repainted in Bali Blue, and the interior was reupholstered in the correct Black upholstery with charcoal German square-weave carpets. New front and rear windshields were installed, and the chrome work was replated. In January 2015, Automotive Techniques of Michigan performed an extensive $16,000 mechanical service, which included a new exhaust system, rebuilding the suspension and heater systems, replacing the rear main seal, replacing the wheel bearings and CV boots, rebuilding the braking system, and installing new spark plugs and ignition wires.

Mechanically, this 356SC is powered by the matching 1600cc flat-four SC engine (Type 616/16), producing 95 horsepower, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission (Type 741) with a four-wheel disc braking system, which delivers a balance of performance, drivability, and reliability. Under the care of the recent owner, additional mechanical and cosmetic work was carried out by Daniel’s Speed Shop and European Collectibles, including a full undercarriage detail, complete engine tune, and a brand-new set of Vredestein Sprint Classic tires (date-coded 2025). This example is offered with an extensive file of documentation, including Porsche Production Specifications, a Porsche Kardex – build sheet, jack, spare wheel, and 35 years of service and restoration records. Well-documented and finished in a striking factory color combination, this 1964 Porsche 356SC Coupe presents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable and collectible models in the 356 series.
