According to its Porsche-issued Certificate of Authenticity, this 1974 911 Carrera Coupe was one of a small handful of MFI Carreras delivered in Japan. The document reveals the car was originally finished in Orange over a Blauschwarz (Midnight) interior with tweed seat inserts. In addition, the Coupe was selected with factory-fitted air conditioning (since removed), fog lights below the front bumper, and tinted glass. The car retains a very similar look today, though black cloth seat inserts have been substituted for the original tweed. This iconic Carrera color combination is well matched to the “ducktail” rear spoiler, negative Carrera side stripes, and subtle rear fender flares, all hugely desirable carryovers from the previous year’s 2.7 Carrera RS. Furthermore, unlike Carreras delivered in the United States, the Rest of World (RoW) cars received the very same Type 911/83 mechanically fuel injected flat-six that powered the iconic 1973 Carrera RS. In fact, the short run of “G-Body” MFI Carreras are so technically similar to the third series 1973 RS many who drive the two back-to-back are hard pressed to discern a substantial difference.

After its time in Japan, this 1974 Porsche Carrera 2.7 MFI is understood to have passed through owners in Switzerland and Germany before arriving in the United States in 2012, where it was acquired by a Scottsdale, Arizona based enthusiast. The car’s history reflects careful stewardship, with maintenance and selective restoration over the past decade. Upon arrival in Arizona, Zuffenhausen Motors of Scottsdale, Arizona began extensive mechanical and cosmetic work. Black Carrera side graphics were added, and numerous mechanical upgrades were performed, including a new alternator, spark plugs, fresh tires, pressure-fed chain tensioner kit, valve adjustments, and a comprehensive engine inspection. The A/C system was removed in order to fully realize the Carrera MFI’s performance potential but remains with the car for reinstallation if desired.

At that time, the odometer showed 59,558 kilometers (approximately 37,016 miles), confirmed by North Hollywood Speedometer. A refurbished US-specification 180 mph speedometer was clocked forward to match the distance recorded, while the original metric unit was retained. Service continued through 2014–2016 with a new Bosch fuel pump, ignition coil, sport mufflers, and a windshield replacement. In 2017, a $19,000 rebuild of the matching numbers engine was performed, including machining of the crankcase, installation of new head studs, reconditioned camshafts, and a full reassembly with a new flywheel. Most recently, in 2025 the Carrera was treated to a comprehensive engine out servicing performed by the noted specialists at The Pit Stop in Brisbane, California. This extensive servicing included a reseal of the engine and an upgrade to the later Carrera style chain tensioners, along with a plethora of other items to ensure that the Carrera drives as good as it looks.

Today, with 68,555 miles indicated at the time of cataloging, this captivating orange Carrera presents in excellent condition with striking paint and 7 and 8×15-inch Fuchs wheels with Pirelli tires completing the period-correct look. Inside, the dashboard, VDO instruments, and restored seats with cloth inserts are well maintained. The front trunk and engine bay are quite clean as well, reflecting original details and recent restorative efforts. The consigning Broad Arrow Car specialist notes that the car displayed excellent road manners during a short drive with sharp MFI throttle response, a raspy, pleasing engine note, and tight feel from its original 915 five-speed transmission. The car is offered with original A/C components, toolkit, jack, spare, air compressor, books, service records since 2012, the original 300 km/h speedometer, and a German-language Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
