Hoogtepunten

  • RSR By Canford Classics
  • 3.5L Engine
  • Signal Orange

HISTORY FILE: Arriving at Canford Classics as a former racer, this 1978 SC would receive a total rebuild from the ground up for prominent UK Collector – Frank Cassidy of Boxengasse. With over £100k spent, the invoicing for work carried out is quite incredible with details second-to-none. Something of a perfectionist, Frank would go on to work through the car alongside his neighbour – Autofarm – to further finesse this masterpiece. With fresh rear Bilstein shocks, a new flywheel and a new washer pump the car wants for nothing and is ready for it’s next enthusiast to enjoy and admire.

Het voertuig in detail

Equipment: G50 Base, 3.5 Litre 930 Engine with Mechanical Fuel Injection, 915 Gearbox with Factory LSD, Correctly Shaped RSR Steel Wings Front and Back, Full Expel PPF, Carbon12 Brakes, Fuchs Wheels, Bilstein Suspension, Rennsport Bucket Seats with Pepita Inserts, Sabelt Harnesses, Half Roll Cage, Fire Extinguisher, 110L Fuel Tank, Cibi Spotlights, Ducktail Spoiler, Carrera Script

EXTERIOR: Starting life as an SC the shell of this now, frankly epic, RSR Tribute was subject to a rotisserie restoration, fully stripped back to bare metal and rebuilt with all steel panels by Canford Classics in 2017. Each panel was painstakingly checked and gapped before the entire shell received this very special paintjob.

The Signal Orange looks period perfect on this wide arch special; complimented by contrasting black Carrera decals to the side and rear with the infamous RSR motif proudly displayed on the Ducktail spoiler. All the brightwork has been restored and the chrome items replated whilst twin exit exhausts and Cibie spot lights provide that renowned Rennsport flair.

With full PPF from Topaz Detailing the paintwork is enhanced and protected for years to come.

INTERIOR

Further embodying motorsport inspiration, this 911 partners the old with the new – period correct bucket seats, featuring wonderful Pepita inserts, are secured by Sabelt harnesses attached to a bar on the recently installed half roll cage. The dashboard now features genuine backdated instrumentation inclusive of rev counter that sits behind a dished 380mm RS wheel – ideal for better reach and adjustability. All gear linkages, pedal assembly and gearstick have been fully stripped and rebuilt.

An original Salt and Pepper carpet, with correct sound deadening, has been installed throughout along with new and correct trim to door cards and rear parcel shelf – a tailored carpet section also offers some safe storage space under the bonnet. Whilst tie downs for boot and bonnet are period correct, safety and security were paramount so the cable pulls remain.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Built on a 930/20 case, this 3.5 litre engine benefits from a number of special parts to create a perfectly balanced powerhouse. With the crank stroked, accompanied by JE Pistons and original RSR sprint cams, the results are incredible – 310hp and 380lb/ft torque at 7,500rpm.

Perfectly tractable and happy around town, the elastic powertrain swells towards peak power with urgency – thrilling, addictive and totally engaging. An RSR style 2 in 2 out backbox ensures the acoustics are a match for the performance.

The gearbox is now a fully rebuilt aluminium 915 unit with factory LSD, reinforced side plate and single bearing retainer.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

Attention to detail is all important and there could only ever be one wheel choice here – 9 and 11 inch wide Fuchs wrapped in recently fitted Pirelli P7 Corsa rubber. Finished in house by Canford Classics the wheels look just sublime.

Stopping power is provided by Carbon 12 – a bespoke set up specifically engineered for this car. The entire suspension system has been upgraded; inspected and detailed prior to re-installation the car runs on a set of coilovers alongside a very special anti-roll bar system. Handling is quite superb on road with forgiving dampers and little to no roll.
