Het voertuig in detail

The 930 generation of the Porsche 911, produced from 1975 through 1989, is among the most iconic, recognizable, and coveted of the marque. Much of its development stemmed from Porsche’s racing program. The FIA Group 4 homologation rules that required 400 road cars spurred the development of “Project 930,” now known as the legendary 911/930 Turbo.

In production from April 1975, the Turbo married a KKK turbocharger to the 3.0-liter Carrera RSR engine, a combination that delivered a substantial increase in power and top speed over the naturally aspirated 911 Carrera. In 1978, the Turbo’s engine was enlarged to 3.3 liters, gaining even more power and an intercooler in the process. Porsche was forced to withdraw the 930 from North America in 1979, as it did not meet more stringent exhaust emissions standards. But following the development of new electronic engine management, the Turbo returned to the United States in 1984.

Although the Turbo’s flared wheel arches and “whale tail” spoiler had already been seen on the base Carrera, the interior was more luxurious, featuring leather upholstery, air conditioning, and electric windows. The 911 Turbo Cabriolet, with its power-operated soft top, was introduced for the 1987 model year.

This example was manufactured in October of 1988, according to the accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Remarkably, the car benefits from single ownership since April 1989 and has been driven sparingly since new, showing just under 4,500 miles on the odometer at cataloguing time. It left the factory finished in Grand Prix White with a black fabric soft-top over a Velvet Red Leather interior. Factory options included a limited-slip differential, shorter gearshift lever, Fuchs wheels with color-matched centers, sport seats with electric height adjustment, heated driver’s seat, rear model designation delete, Blaupunkt “Reno” stereo, amplifier system, steering wheel with raised hub, luggage compartment in black velour, and a tonneau cover.

Recent service by the consignor’s personal mechanic is said to have included changing fluids and replacing seals on the 3.3-liter turbocharged flat six-cylinder engine. In addition to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the car is accompanied by a Certificate of Origin from Porsche Cars North America, factory manuals, tools, a factory protective bras, tonneau cover, spare, jack, and an air compressor. Benefitting from long-term single ownership in a private collection, extremely low mileage, and desirable factory options, this 911 Turbo Cabriolet is likely among the very best available on the market.
