The Carrera GT was sparse compared to the 924 Turbo, and body modifications allowed for wider, competition-style tyres along with improved aerodynamic efficiency. The designers also included larger brakes, upgraded springs and shock absorbers, and a limited-slip differential. Mechanically, the Carrera GT used a turbocharged version of the standard 924 engine, with an added intercooler. The real test at the Auto Show was whether or not the car was well received; according to Group 4 homologation rules, Porsche would have to sell 400 identical cars within a year in order to enter. Luckily for the marque, demand was high and the car was well received.
