Introduced in 1982, the 944 marked a significant departure for Porsche. Designed as a successor to the 924, the 944 featured a new 2.5-liter inline-four cylinder, front mounted engine, and paired with its near 50/50 balance split, the car was truly remarkable. As Porsche continued to refine the model, the 944 evolved through several iterations, culminating in the introduction of the 944 Turbo in 1985.

The 944 Turbo, was the performance flagship of the 944 lineup. Retaining the original 2.5L inline-four power-plant, this new evolution now featured a single turbocharger, delivering a substantial increase in power—reaching 217 horsepower, a whopping 80 HP bump over it’s N/A predecessor. The 944 Turbo quickly became a celebrated blend of exhilarating performance and everyday usability.
